The Tour de France through Yorkshire. Just wondering how many Pedelecs members were out watching?
I must say when it came to Kent, some years ago,I decided it wasn't really a spectator sport. But I do enjoy watching it on the TV,it's a great way of seeing scenery that is usually in parts of the world that is rarely visited, the helicopter is ideal to cover it.

I can't believe this is the first post on the TdF

It may or may not be a spectator sport, but it's certainly one hell of a once in lifetime experience that's bringing pleasure to huge numbers of people.

It's all happening at York and it hasn't even started!

yep,I was in Skipton at 6.45 this morning and have played back the one minute of video travelling the length of the high street numerous times. I then watched on big screen at fan hub until it finished. Its all about the 'I was there' and the atmosphere that makes it such a great day. I will also be in Paris after a charity London to Paris bike ride to see the finish. Can't wait for both !!

Talk about a wealth of sport for a number of days, the Tour de France, Wimbledon Tennis, the football World Cup closing stages on TV and the Formula 1 British Grand Prix.

A dilemma of which to choose at times for some and a nightmare for those who don't like sport!

Indeed, and two commentators this weekend were already talking about the forthcoming Commonwealth Games.

Of course the TV companies love it all, it's far cheaper to produce than real programs. I class it with repeats and low grade US imports as "Lazy TV".

Must say the TV coverage of the Tour is excellent
Yes, every year the Tour de France makes a very good travelogue for the countries it passes through, the helicopter filming in particular brings many delights and surprises to our screens.

And not just that one. One year Malaysia's Tour de Langkawi was the best of any I'd ever watched for it's inspired filming, that quality of production never repeated in subsequent years sadly. The people and scenery were stunning and the surprises were outstanding. For example, the race official's car with a huge pet python stretched out of the passenger window as they drove past the cyclists! A bit different from the dog hanging out that we are used to. Another startling image was the spectator who brought his elephant with him to watch the race, his bicycle in a bike rack high up on the elephant's back!

Wow,what a day of Sport....us blokes are supposedly not able to multi-task!...But I managed to watch probably one of the most exciting Wimbledon finals,Lewis winning F1 at the British Grand Prix and the amazing public support to the Tour de France in Yorkshire.
Great day

But I do enjoy watching it on the TV,
At 48yrs old, I've never watched more than a few minutes of a football game, never even seen an F1 race as my interest in cars is zero, but when it comes to the TDF, for some reason I just can't get enough of it. :)

The best stages for me, are always the mountain stages, and I freely admit that I'm not adverse to taking a day or so off work to sit down at home with a few beers, and watch away. :)

The French are just so passionate about the whole thing, in a way that us Brits never will be, and I just find the whole event so enthralling.

I liked when the team BMC rider went from one side of the road to the other to give the young lad his bag after the feeding station. A nice touch that.

Who would think that watching a load of blokes on bikes could generate such enthusiasm! Well I've seen it and now I know why. It's just seeing something that you will only ever see once, that's makes it so memorable. I'll never forget it, and that was the view of my new friends stood next to me.

Ditto, I managed all three as well. Wimbledon was a real cliff-hanger.

I was there for the start and for the three day Festival of Cycling. Saw the RooDog lot again who greeted me with "Blimey, you get around!".

Also I watched the film "Bicycle" on a cinema powered by pedalling! Great independent film about the history of British bikes and cycling, plus it explains how we royally screwed things up for cycle commuting back in 1959. Go see it if you're genuinely interested in cycling in this country. If not then the new Transformers is out next week!

The route passed within about eight miles of my static caravan in North Yorkshire.

I was able to watch the start on television, cycle to my chosen viewpoint between Leyburn and Masham, and then cycle the route to Masham to watch the stage end on an outdoor screen.

The breakaway had been reeled in by the time the riders reached me, so they all hammered past in a group.

Impressive sight close-up.

I flew over to France to find that the race was held back in England. I was fuming so I decided to swim back all the way home.:(
The good thing is that when back in England this time I will prepare myself properly for the commonwealth games held in Wales.:)

We made the effort to go and see it in Portsmouth/Southsea when our youngest was in her pram - twenty years ago! Fantastic experience. My brother rang yesterday to say he is going to escape from London and try to get out to watch it.
