Derestricting Bosch Gen 2

There is a dealer who will sell bikes with the Bosch Gen2 motor with a tuning dongle. The catch is they only do the modification if you buy the bike from them.

I would like to DIY the modification but I dont know the inner workings of the Gen2 motor, does anyone have any information that may help?

Yeah I understand the loss of warranty, just want to understand how it works and whats involved before commiting to the modification.

AIUI, it takes away every other pulse from the speed sensor so fools the system into believing the bike is only going at half the speed.

Here's a link to some fitting instructions for the Gen1 system.

I understand that fitting to the Gen2 is similar although perhaps slightly more complicated.

Get a Badass dongle. If you get any problems, take it back off. Nobody will know it's been on.

Having seen the fitting video - that sort of obtrusive work would definitley invalidate the warranty. The procedure doesnt look easyily reversed, plus the display would be useless as far as range and speed goes. So for those reasons - I'm out.

I wont be greedy... I'l just stick to the standard road legal speeds

As D8 says, Badass is the way to go.

The dongle simply clips on to the speed sensor on the chainstay - no wiring, butchering or any other ing.

Does the same job, and can be whipped off in seconds.

I know, I have one.

Oh, and it's cheaper than the wired ones.

I've got a badass dongle as well on my Cube.
Works a treat and I've had great service from Lui.

All the more reason to by the "S" version if you can on day one.
Already in effect dongled by Bosch when you buy it.

Apologies for bringing this back up and also if it's been answered elsewhere but does the badass dongle get detected by Bosch diagnostic software and thereby invalidatewarranty

I think according to Col the KTM importer it does. Look up his posts of a month or so ago backwards and I’m pretty sure you’ll find that he wrote that. If you can find it among all the arguments from different members about illegal derestricting on the various threads.

It's not KTM that won't warranty your bike.

It's Bosch and this is the case whatever your brand of bike.

Just as a matter of interest - does anyone know how to restrict a Bosch Active Gen 2 to 25km/hr. max support to make it legal for road use?

Also since "An average-trained recreational cyclists provides for a body weight of 70 kg, a continuous output of 150 watts" (source power tap - poor translation by google) then does using any setting providing less than 66% support (or in my case probably 100%) mean that one is within the spirit of the law even if not the letter?
