I was expecting a much more wild ride from your comment :p I tend to avoid crowds of people because noone looks where they are bloody going these days.

Peak District has same signs. It can and does however lead to more confusion. I always keep to left of larger tracks as do most other track users, except those who have read the sign. They walk down middle oblivious with attitude of I, m not moving to either side. Which I suppose is one meaning of having priority.
And then with infinite wisdom the pavement towards Bamford is split in two. One half walkers other cyclists but cyclists have to contend with walkers who can't read writing on the floor and motorists opening their doors into cycle path. It's not really the environment to even need a pedelec, let alone an illegal one at busy times. I, m very lucky, I can go out mid week early morning and have entire net
work to myself. Stopped going weekends now its busy. Not worth the hassle.
I am waiting for Autumn. The nights are still warm enough to go out after dark and any peds on the tow path cower down averting their eyes from my brilliance.. (for some reason my spell adjuster wanted to put violence instead of brilliance.. mustv thought I was SW. Purrrrrrrrr.

I like night rides in Peak District. Go on as many prohibited paths as possible... Don't tell anybody tho. Bit spooky at times. Modern lights are so good but make everything out their beam look black as ink... Used to use a car reversing lamp, minus lens plus burglar alarm battery... More a good glow than white light. Last orders in pub plus a pork sarni then off around peak district. Brilliant.

The folk using, selling and offering advice about illegal bikes are the ones who should be ashamed. (or the ones defending said activity,)

. I love going around Lady Bower and not coming home cream crackered after a 28 mile ride. Its heaven, just ambling around, doing what bike was designed for and what current rules allow. Would be easy to lose this, it's not a right , rather a privilege. Our attitudes towards illegal bikes could jeapordise it all.
Interesting attitude. I'm sorry but you're not exactly helping the situation are you.

Fair point but both comments taken somewhat out of context. The night rides were about 25 years ago...And don't think there is much chance of going break neck speed or crashing into walkers at 2am in middle of moors.
I used the dongle for a week and removed it. (As explained) The morning ride was a one off... again as explained.

I was riding my Kona Explosive back then. It is more about bikes being where they shouldn't be.

I was on GT Timberline, then a Proflex. I, d guess around 93 ?? Might have been later.
Once had a short on burglar alarm battery, wires glowing orange in dark, set paint on fire on Timberline. Rode back to Ringinglow in pitch black.
There were more signs than now requesting mtb absence. Don't think anyone actually cares who goes where at 2am. Damage to paths is debatable.
Two crushed vertebrae, 4 broken ribs, and a smashed knee now riddled with arthritis is nature's way of saying take more care on track choice, how fast you ride, when and where.

The vid of the drivers actions was despicable, obviously he's a nut case with more then one screw loose. Police currently want a word or two with him.
Dangerously reversing down a narrow street at speed, driving on a footpath intimidating cyclists standing, recklessly undertaking in bus lane etc, etc.
Using a car in that manner to intimidate the cyclists will hopefully lead to a fine and some points and with a bit of luck a driving ban.

Do you want the flexibility of being able to use pavements to circumvent red traffic lights, while also having the ability to build up a decent speed on the roads? Why not try the latest craze from Scandinavia – cycling!

Some of the latest models from Halfords even come with a bell or a horn so you can tell pedestrians to get out of the ******* way should they dare to encroach upon your sacred pedestrianised area.

No longer is it necessary to just approach them from behind at great speed and yell at them. What an age we are living in!

The UK Federal Federation Of Cyclists are even giving out a free starter pack to the next 5000 people to join, and this includes a handy card to give to people explaining that it’s not ‘Road Tax’ but actually ‘Vehicle Excise Duty.’

Let's leave SW alone and get back to the job in hand.
Has anyone ever been out walking on shared paths and trails and can view this issue from another perspective? Perhaps been on a family picknik with a dog and a brace of ankle biters? Or wandering on listening to music trying to get away from the woes of your world?

As you know, I often go riding with my exceptional doggy. :)

At this time of year the shared paths are often overly hazardous. What with pedestrians, their offspring and unruly canines presenting more hazards to our relatively silent two wheeled approach. Although an mp3 player on the bars does help. I find it best to go cross country where that possibility exists. Ebikes are great for that. It's not all about strava and speed. Try going off piste for a more unique and safer experience. You might like it. :p
