Dawes Boost Suburbia

Hi guys and gals.
I've been gifted a dawes boost my father bought but never used. I'm suffering cut out of the bike every time I try and pedal off. I'm wondering if I can bypass the restriction at all and if anyone else has suffered from this problem . The battery might be the problem I've seen on the Web.... My car has just cost me a considerable amount of cash and could do with a possible quick fix

Measure the battery voltage reading after it has been charged, this might tell us something about the state of said battery.
