Curiously had the bike been a legal pedalec the 20mph limit would not have applied ... assuming his legs were strong enough; bikes (and pedalecs) somehow got outside the relevant law. Once the bike exceeds that 15.5 assisted max it becomes an s-pedalec and the speed limit does apply; this is irrespective whether it is a legal or illegal s-pedalec.

Fantastic news this will lead the way for us all in the future to enjoy e-bikes with more power.
We already have them with electric motorbikes and mopeds, while it is road legal this also means it can not use cycle paths/ canal paths etc etc, also you need a licence/ insurance so not sure what this achieves.
