Thank you for your prompt reply. I get the fact that I need an 8 or 9 wire motor lead and will get on that ASAP. Can you tell by the crappy pictures that I need a new motor too? I live just inside Leicester and am wondering if there's a place I could take the whole bike and bits etc to them and get them to sort it all out, would you know of anyone like that? Is there an index or list of electric bike repair shops ? Cos i'v a feeling I'll balls it up if I try it myself!. Still i'dlike to thank you for your time.
Thomasb.
PS I assume the side plate you refer to has a sticker saying" servo safety brake" on its edge?

I can't really help you because I've no idea what you've got. All I've seen is some wires and the inside of the motor. Do you have the missing parts? Who opened the motor? I can't advise any shops because I've no idea where you are.

If you take that bike to a shop, they'll charge you £200 to fit a new motor. I doubt that they'd repair that one. Is your battery OK? If not you need a new one, which is another £150 to £250. You can buy a good used Cyclamatic for £400. If you don't have the competence to fix it yourself, stick it on Ebay as a repair project. If you have the competence, but not the knowhow, we can probably help you through it.

To repair the motor, you need a 8 or 9 wire motor lead.

Shemozzle had some, so check whether he has any left.

Once you have the lead, you have to solder the ends and insulate them with heat-shrink sleeve. Think about the cost of all the things you need if you don't already have them. I assume you have the missing side-plate. A new motor is about £100.

Ok mate, here goes. I found a cyclamatic foldaway bike in a skip, no battery tho,so was skimming thru eBay for battery prices and like you said they're well pricey like £240 for a new one. Anyway one ad had a battery in full working order for £120 so I got in touch and we agreed the £120 and it was a good distance away but I went for it. The guy who was selling the battery sold me the batt and charger and asked if I'd be interested in taking the whole bike plus the batt and charger for £200, I thought about it and agreed thinking that the protean battery would fit the foldaway bike I'd found I could then sell the foldaway and keep the proteam bike and buy a battery with any profit from the foldaway. The guy said it was his sons bike and he said he didn't know why his son cut the wires but he was using it now as an ordinary bike, he told me it was only one wire that his son had cut, obviously not true!. As to the condition of the motor, I had no way to check it at the time and took the guy at his word(foolishly it would seem) when I got home I looked at the wiring that he gave me,had no real idea of what I was looking at or where to start. So I went online and the pedelecs site was there and that's when I contacted you guys. So in essence I have the proteam bike, wires, a silver box, and a battery. I had no idea the motor was kaput and that's took the wind out of my sails a bit. Also the battery was about 5mm to broad to fit the foldaway bike so it looks like I'm losin on all fronts eh! Anyway if you've any more advice I'll be only too happy to listen to it and maybe have a go at it, if it's repairable that is. I live in Loughborough, Leicestershire LE11.
Once again thanks for your time.

What I mean is: Do you have the missing parts from the motor?

I would guess that the guy fell off the bike and damaged the wires where they come out of the axle, or he couldn't disconnect the wire to fix a puncture, so he cut the wire.

Why don't you show some photos of everything you have, and then we can see if it's worth repairing?

Do you have the basic skills of soldering, wiring multimeters etc?

Hi again, I shall take photos of everything I have regarding the bike(which I'm regretting !) and get them in to this thread tomorrow. As for missing motor parts, I was'nt aware that any parts were missing! As for soldering, multimeters etc I have a basic understanding of them but a buddy of mines is a sparky so he's on standby to lend a hand if needed.
Thanks for replying
Thomas's.

Your picture shows the inside of the motor. It should be obvious that a cover-plate is missing. The question is whether you have it? You need the screws to fix the cover-plate, the axle nuts and the special washers as well.
