Hi all

Does anyone have any experience with the d-cycle discovery 8 ? I'm thinking of getting this through the cycle to work scheme and seems a good deal for what seems a decent ebike.

Any advice you can give would be great. I can't seem to find any reviews on the model at all it sells for 999.00 on all other web sites I can find it on.

Decent rear hub bike which is a cut above some of the stuff direct from China.

The wholesaler has been knocking these out very cheap to the trade, so £549 seems about right as 'clearance' price.

I can't think of anything better for that sort of money.

Thanks for the reply RobF. It should do the job I want it for then. I only have a 4 mile commute to work each way. The route is 99% flat down a canal path. I had a cyclomatic a few years ago but sold it as I wasn't very happy with it, Plus I needed the extra income at the time. I'm hopeful that this will be of better quality. I know it's not going to be as great as some of the £2000 bikes out there but as long as it lasts me a good few years and works well I will be happy

D Cycles were pretty good for about £1,000, so £550 is a good price.

The bike should do what you ask of it.

No point in spending any more as you are not interested in electric bikes as a hobby.

The D Cycle should be noticeably better than your old Cyclomatic.

It should be reliable, being a fairly simple, tried and tested design.

Let the forum know how you get on - plenty of people with similar requirements to yours.

That bike with the vat taken out is close to cost price....someone is desperate to clear.
At £999.00 it is a little overpriced,at £549.00 it's very cheap.
The spec is pretty standard normal Chinese ,by that I mean it's all the popular choices,nothing remarkable like a BPM motor or hydraulic brakes but nothing substandard.

Thanks RobF I will keep you all posted once it arrives. Takes a few weeks so I'm told for the voucher to come through from work but the good people at ebikes direct are holding it for me till the voucher arrives. Fingers crossed it won't take too long.

I'm not expecting any miracle from it. Just want it to work well, get me fro A to B with as few problems as possible. It will only be doing 8 miles a day and possibly the odd trip to the store and back.

The bikes are being knocked out to the trade at 500 quid a pop provided you take a few, so in this case the retailer is content to turn one over for £50.

I don't think the wholesaler is desperate to clear, but that need not concern the OP.

The bike is appropriate for the OP's needs and, for once, is being sold at a good price.

Taking into account VATand delivery that would be a loss. Nice bike though, assembled in Germany

it does not make sense to assemble the bike in Germany if the bike is almost entirely made with Chinese components.
it's sold out any way.

I think my local bike shop still has a couple, but I doubt the owner would take £550 for one.

Ebikes have one reserved for me till my voucher comes through. Those cycle scheme people are horrendously slow. It took a colleague 6 weeks to get hers.
