I got my bike in September, its an eb6165 from erollingbikes, I love it but it seems that my charger may be going caput. It started cutting out about 2 weeks ago, it will run for about an hour and them just cuts out, both lights go off and it goes cold, it will be an hour or more before it will come back to life and continue to charge, model is shc 8100 lc with a 5.5mm jack, I did find a thread with the same charger and link to amazon / ebay seller but I've managed to order a new charger direct from erolling at less cost, it should arrive next week.

Any thought on why it works intermittently and if in fact a new charger is the solution?

It is now very warm in my flat as I'm virtually in the roof space, its been upto 28c this week, I have tried the charger in different sockets to no effect, also might it be something from the battery?

There are also some odd things with my stead that I would like to learn about and need sorting out, so am hoping for advices as I've gone into dyslexic fog using the search facility and not quite finding answers but suspect I should do separate thread :)

28 C is a high temperature. Have you got a friend or neighbour where you could try the charger in the open air at a lower temperature? The charger may have a thermal cut out to prevent overheating.

Yes its far too hot already and only June! It did drop down to 24.7C late afternoon and the charger stayed on for nearly 2 hours and got the battery to full charge.

The manufactures spec says it will operate in upto 40C, also lists protection stuff and am wondering if its 'output over voltage protection' the spec says it will shut down?

Very unlikely, it's almost certainly a fault in that charger. A zener diode problem has been the cause of similar symptoms in some chargers previously, particularly some from HP (HighPower of China) and Panasonic.

Oh.. I hope the new one will be ok. I was thinking about getting another battery from them to extend range ability but might have to reconsider if this charger thing may be a problem.

They tend to be odd cases of failure rather than persistent occurrences, so it's not something that needs to affect a choice of e-bike.

Well the new charger arrived promptly, its a different make - Sans electronic and has instructions which say its operating temperature is up to 25 C, its twice the weight of the other one and although it got hot when charging it's nowhere near the scary heat output of the original. Had to test it in my neighbours who has a nice cool Victorian house and all seems to be fine so I am very happy with it :)

I did test the original next door as well but it did the same thing. The charging is going to be a problem, even at night its over 25C at the moment. Is there a solution other than begging my neighbour and sitting with it while it charges?
