Crank arm clearance

Has any one tried shimano steps e6010 crank arms, have a clearance problem the non drive pedal arm is catching on the chain stay of my latest creation these look like they might help
a standard TSDZ2 73mm into a fat bike frame will post pic tomorrow The angle grinder and a hammer have been used

A few pictures of the victim, purchased as a scrapper with the bottom bracket threads stripped
I can confirm that the {on one} steel frame received 20mm cut off each side of the bb with a angle grinder that allowed the standard tsdz2 to fit in

After spending much of the planning time on the drive side and chain line problems ,which are easily solved
Overlooked the other arm clearance a temporary fix guilty as charged beat the offending item with a large hammer , then an even larger hammer this allowed for a test ride
but a solution is requred

The only item beaten is the pedal arm, the pedal now is not 90 degrees to the arm
Options are plug the hole drill and re-tap threads I do not think this will work ]
Find a new arm shorter or with a wider sweep
The worst part is due to the lock down cleaned the workshop up and binned all the old cranks Sure the original arms off the fat trike would of solved the problem

Did you try swapping the left/right crank arms, is this an option?

No, the right one has the connection to the chainring(s); also the pedal threading would be the wrong way round.

Looks like you have space on the drive side, the whole crank unit needs to be shifted towards the non drive side. Have you installed any spacers on the drive side? If you have, can you move them all across to the non drive side?

Hi Peter I have Shimano steps cranks on my Tongsheng. They have a narrower Q factor than the originals so they are not the answer. I don't think you will find any standard cranks with wider Q factor than your originals. If you got your frame as a scrapper why not find another one with a standard BB.

The rear tyre is a 4 inch + it is a fat bike, all have wide bb most 100-120mm

I just wanted a mid-drive fat bike with out the extra cost [£ double] and did not want a bbshd [ I KNEW THIS WOULD BE A PROBLEM BEFORE I STARTED THE BUILD ]

The tsdz2 100mm conversion requires a 33mm tap and a full rebuild new shaft etc or a purchase from the US or Italy

We all know spare time and idle hands with the motor and battery on the shelf and a pile of fat bike wheels tyres etc left over + I like a challenge

No spacers on the drive side the motor is tight up to the down tube and chain stays

The new arms are shorter [2inches] and steel so the grinder and welder [a cut and shut] should cure the problem, if not will wait for the local blacksmith to reopen and scratch build or move the bb forward

The problem will affect more conversions ,as new mtb now come with a small single chain wheel -100mm bb -11/12 gears and 2.8 inch tyres and crazy chain stay angles Carrera vendetta - Specialized Rockrider etc

Done and test ride completed standard TSDZ2 in a fat bike frame battle over
The angle grinder and hammer are now locked away

Out in the wild big grin just got to get the tyre pressure sorted tried 20 psi off road but 30psi is better on road less tyre roar 20 miles and still comfort seat and tmax seat post help

It's a tricky one to get right. I run around 7-8 psi off road with Bud and Lou, but road noise is hideous, 20 psi in VeeTire Apache slicks to avoid self-steer, but harsh and bouncy. Still work in progress.

The worst thing is purchased 2 new tyres put them on ,and after 100 yards back to the workshop to refit the old ones, less tyre roar
Hard to adjust after a fs bike going back to rigid but its a great beer bike /shopper
