New battery for the connect is almost £300. I can get a bottle battery with bracket for around £100. Can i simply connect into the existing controller if i fitted a bottle?

You can connect any battery of the correct voltage to your controller. Bear in mind £100 isn't going to buy you much in the way of quality or capacity.

It can't me much worse than the one he already has/had.

It's mainly true, though, that a more expensive battery with branded cells will be better than a cheapo one, but 3x£100 batteries will probably out last 1x£300 one.

To answer the question, yes, you can fit any battery of any type. You can take your controller out and fit it in a bag under the saddle. The wires on the new battery will have to be run through to the controller wherever it is, so you have to solder some wires or connectors.

Bought a charger. Now find that it all lights up but nothing works on this part. It doesn’t turn off and won’t move out of the LOW mode?272D135C-F892-49EE-B463-71994FE3FBED.jpeg

It's probably got water in it.

Try unplugging it, wait a few minutes, then reconnect it to see if it resets.

No, nothing seems to reset it. It must have had it. When i’ve got the bike back together i will see how it rides on the permanent LOW setting. I may have to join up wires to get it on permanent high.

I don’t really want to spend out on a new part at mo. The bike was left out in all weathers for a long while and is now a right old rust heap. I’ve bought a charger and have found that the motor wheel turns ok. Now got to renew the rusted chain, the cracked tyres and inner tubes and give it a go.

You can bypass the display by joining the red and blue wires, ideally with a switch. That will leave in level one by default. To get level 3, you need 3v on the green wire. A pair of AAA cells might work if you join their 0v wire to the common ground.
