Hi
Hope someone can help please.
I’ve got a Free Go folding ebike which has been in shed unused for a long time.
Kept the battery and charger stuff inside house.
Went to sort it all out and failed at first hurdle.
Battery not charging.
Battery and charger etc look perfect, dry, clean etc.
Is there any chance this could be something cheap to fix, seen that new batteries are a fortune.
If not, is it possible to convert bike to non electric?
Seems a shame not to keep it as it’s such a lovely bike.
Don’t want to spend more than a few hundred pounds. Will have to sell spares/repairs if not.
Any advice greatly appreciated, can’t take any more googling!
Thanks in advance

would it be worth stripping it of electrical components, including hub wheel, selling the parts off to pay for new wheel and rebuilding the bike? Perhaps you could sell that too with the cash raised going towards a new bike!

That sounds like a very good idea indeed. At the end of the day I want this bike to get used and I just want one for nipping about. I didn’t know it was something you could actually do so big thanks very much for your reply, I can source and approach a local company with your suggestion :)

Hold on, batteries don't like being left not used for long periods. How long is
" a long time"?
Dismantling the electrics seems a bit drastic. It might only need a new battery or maybe it can be revived or there are places that can replace the internal battery cells if it is dead so it is good as new.
But please wait for a more knowledgeable person than me to post here.

Not used for about 2 years at least.
No excuse other than pure laziness.
I looked online at batteries last night and nearly fell off sofa, seem to be well over £300 for new and other options.
Thanks very much

Well how much is the bike new? Nearer £1000? You pay for a battery say £350 and sell second hand for £600/700?

But please wait for others to join this thread.

You can get batteries for under £200 that should be usable.
Freego's use the silverfish battery style plenty on ebay for under £200.
Show us a pic of your bike, also it might be possible to revive the battery if you or anyone else want's to have ago. We can guide you but you need a meter for testing.

Omg so happy, ordered new fuse for charger. Charged battery this morning, attached to bike and it’s fully charged. All that angst for the sake off 99p.
Thanks for everyone’s help and advice. Hoping someone will see this in the future and try changing the fuse before thinking worst and worrying about anything else!
Whoop whoop

Well done Annie, you've had a bit of luck there!

It could well be that the range of the battery is decreased now due to the amount of time that it has been left standing.
Don't try to cover the miles that you could with the bike two years ago before doing some shorter test runs!

Don’t worry, arranging to book it in for a service. Daren’t use it until after then. I can remember how fun it was but not a lot else so may end up keeping it and getting a cheap manual bike.
Thanks very much. Glad I came across this site :)
