controller or wire loom faulty?

We have a 250W motor on a Mountain trike (Offroad wheelchair) with a controller KT36/48zwsr-nsk23xl and kt 5 display. The problem we are having is when switching on the display, the battery icon shows as empty and the motor doesn't work. We only have throttle

Removed the original wire loom to install on a different piece of equipment, now i've put a new one back on this trike and this is happening.

Any ideas/sugestions?

If you only use the throttle, you don't really need the LCD. You should be able to get going again as a temporary measure by shorting together the red and blue wires in the loom, but if you have the waterproof connectors, it's not easy to access them.

When you lose the battery display, it's often a sign that the LCD has been zapped. That can happen if you don't line up the connectors properly before pushing them together. If that's what's happened, your LCD is scrap, so you need a new one. In which case, you can cut it's cable to get at the red and blue wires. You should only bridge the wires if they're red, blue black green and yellow (white is OK too if it's a substitute for green or yellow). If you have orange, purple or grey wires in the cable, we need to figure out which wire is which.

There's a diagram here bottom right. They tell you to short yellow to black too, but that often isn't necessary:

One other thing. It's always worth running through the settings in the LCD if you can get at them.

Is the new wire loom a KT specific one or a generic one ?

I re-read the first post after Neals comment. Can you tell us exactly what you've done, what parts you changed and where you got them from? Previously, I thought you just took the harness off, then put it back on again.

I removed the original wire loom to install on a different trike that was faulty (same problem, battery icon empty no power going to the throttle/motor). put back this wire loom and then it was not working so mountain trike sent us this new loom but now has the same problem as the other one. Could be the loom that is causing a fault on the controller?

we had a similar sitiuation a few months ago where we had to replace the controller and loom. it's ok if that's the case, just want to figure out what might be causing it as on this one, all we did was removing the loom

If the loom is a non KT specific one, then the wiring sequence may not be compatible.
With looms they all usually split off at the bulbous end where they all splice off for other peripherals.
I said it's a generic one, but it's the same they use for all their trikes.

thanks

Does walk assist work ?
Depress minus pad and hold , walk assist should kick in to 6kmh .

Test the controller for a mosfet failure.

The cable probably has a short in it where it branches. Disconnect it from the controller, switch off the battery, disconnect it from the controller, switch it on again, then test its output voltage. If it's still 20v, measure it again on the charge socket.

Rather then work backwards with a LV reading , best to start with the battery and work forwards. Double check battery out put voltage first.

If battery reads ok then controller out put voltage next , it may have a regulator component failure on the voltage side. I had this happen once on my Oxydrive kit , it occurred mid ride.
After that one can check the trunk cable .

One needs to be metodical rather then just jumping at this or that, so follow the course of direction via each component starting with the battery.
