Yet another question. yes it would seem the more i learn the less i know.

are controllers cross compatible. ie if i had a 200w watt Heinzmann kit with a dud controller could i replace it with a 40amp Currie controller. i understand that the plugs would not correspond. but with this said would it just be a case of matching the wires.

Brushed controllers should be interchangeable without to many problems as long as the voltage rating is the same as the battery voltage, I was able to change an Ezee sprint controller (Brushless) that broke which would have cost 90 pounds new to replace for a controller off EBay for 20 pounds that did the same job, the connections were different and color codes needed to be worked out but works fine.

In this case it should be OK to swap the controllers, both motors are brushed and therefore require a simple two wire DC suppy, which apart from possible voltage and current differences will be the same.

With brushless motors there are other things to consider and it get more complicated.

PS crossed with aaannndddyy's post but very similar advice:)

I have noticed the Heinzmann motors have 4 connections on the plug, where as other brushed motors usually have 2. Does anyone know why?.

Thanx

Thanx again guy's this has been helpful though don't be surprised if i ask for more technical help with this soon.

P.S. If any of you want to test you bikes capabilities you could do far worse than bring it on holiday to the I.O.W. I can recommend some rides.

The Heinzmann motor includes a thermal cutout in case of excessive load, hence the extra wires.

Once triggered the controller shuts down and waits for the thermal switch to reset before allowing the rider to continue.
