Connecting 3 wire speed sensor to brainpower controller

Recently installed a brainpower controller but as the hub didn't have a speed sensor white cable from the hall sensors in the rear hub we only get a speed and distance reading while the motor is running.

I've bought a 3 wire speed sensor kit off ebay with a spoke magnet. I attached the sensor to the front forks as the rear chain stay was in my opinion too far away for the sensor to read the magnet.

I spliced the red and black from the speed sensor into the red and black from the handle throttle and connected the white too the spare white from the hall sensor wiring.

I still get a speed signal when the motor is running however I still don't get a signal while free wheeling.

How close should the sensor be to the spoke magnets I got it about 2mm away. What sort of signal should I be looking for on the white return cable from the sensor?

Thanks in advance

I don't know how the Brainpowers parameters work but for instance the KT's I use have a setting for the motor magnet / spoke magnet count which can be set between 1 - 6.

One should see 4 -5v on the signal wire to Gnd wire as the magnet passes the sensor and about 1v when out of range.

Thanks. Managed to sort it. You were correct it was a menu setting. Setting p3 has 2 options 1 or zero. It was set to one I changed to zero on the speed reading now works from the front sensor. Below is a photo of the display I have its very basic with just 4 parameters to adjust

regarding to this brainpower controller, mine is unable to control PAS level, as far as i learned from forum, i need to have current control algortihms instead of a speed selection.

is your controller able to provide little assitance at pas level1 ? mine is always trying to give full power. is this related to hall sensor which is missing in my hub motor? controller cant read a speed to reach and assumes we are standing still? what was the difference before adding speed sensor?

No the pas levels only seem to limit top speed not power output. The speed sensor made no difference apart from to give a speed reading all the time instead of just when pedelling
