That's how I repaired my one Nick, but I also added a rear reinforcing angle to give extra support. Here's the pics:

Related to Road Conditions, I love the signs at each end of one of my local lanes. They read as follows:
______________________________

Fairchildes Lane

Motorists, Horses
Cyclists, Pedestrians

Beware of slippery road conditions
______________________________

Maybe it's the grass quality, but it seems our local horses can read.

Presumably Surrey County Council think motorcyclists aren't as bright as our literate equines. :D

We should all use this easy to use method of reporting provided by the CTC.
I have started using Fillthathole via the CTC website and I have had some good results. The best method is to get the Tour of Britain to choose a route along your own areas worst roads. We now have the most beautifully smooth tarmac over several lengths of the main raod through our village. They only got round to it a couple of weeks before the riders came through - just in time

I hadn't made the connection but now that you mention it some of the best surfaced minor roads in my area are those that have in previous years hosted the Tour of Britain, including the hill down which I do my fastest running.
