I'll go along with that Mick. I'm even anti-ICE (in car entertainment) and would prefer cars to be supplied without radios etc as they used to be. There's only one place for ones attention to be focussed when driving, and that's outside the glass. Some years ago when the government's Road Research Laboratory were asked what was the biggest contribution that could be made to road safety, they replied, "putting the driver in a separate compartment away from passengers". They were reflecting the far higher accident rate of cars with passengers against those without, clear evidence of the effects of distraction.

For professional drivers, it already is. Lorry drivers and van drivers are not allowed to smoke in their workplace, namely their vehicle. To the long distance drivers this amounts to a ban in their own home.I am glad that I got out of lorry driving when I did, even though I used to love it.
Did you know that if you are expecting a visit in your home from certain officials, you are expected to refrain from smoking for half an hour before they arrive. In later years when I had my own business, I was sitting at the traffic lights in my van. It was a summer day and everyone had their windows down. A man in the car at the side of me told me he had taken my phone number off the van, and was going to report me to my boss for smoking in the van. I told him he could save the cost of the phone call by telling me to my {expletive} face. I wish that I could take these people as seriously as they take themselves.

just to upset more people....it should be banned whilst driving,if you haven't got proper control with a mobile phone then you certainly haven't with a burning log stuck out of you mouth or between your fingers........on my opinion :D
Damn, that means I'll have more time to spend swigging whisky and rolling tacos at the wheel, then. I find reading the morning papers and eating a breakfast roll so relaxing at 85mph. I don't go faster than that in case it's dangerous, cos you know what they say about speed - kills you, stone dead.

One thing I've learned over the years - the world will never suffer from a shortage of ass holes.
