.....on the AVE XH-7 Custom Urban Cruiser.

Swindon has over sixty miles of safe cycling routes, problem is, where are they? This is a frequently ask question by those returning to cycling.

This is the first in a series of videos of various safe-cycling routes in Swindon, the virtual rider guided by on-the-fly narration.

It has been my long-held belief, if the activity of cycling is promoted, the bikes will sell themselves.

Footage for this and future videos in the series were gathered on the new cam-bike, the AVE XH-7 Custom Urban Cruiser.

The Youtube conversion unfortunately reduced the point-size of the captions, this will be addressed on the next video. Best viewed at 1280 x 1080.

Constructive criticisms of a positive nature welcomed.

Nice video. I must admit I pulled the pin early as ~15 minutes is a lot of time to watch. Maybe speed up some parts to shorten the video; just slowing down for the key turns/highlights on the ride?

Did you do the annotations in YouTube? That maybe a better way of embedding them if you didn't take that approach.

Hello Blew it,

What a fantastic clear and clean cut video. Each to their own, but I enjoyed the video so much that fifteen minutes felt like eight minutes. You definitely had planned it out carefully. More please more and thanks for sharing,

MS.

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for commenting. The video was edited offline using Wondershare Video Editor. Once the ten hours of editing was completed, the video was finalised and uploaded to Youtube in one hit...about five hours total.

The annoying thing is, the completed video on my hard-drive shows the captions correctly rendered, It was the Youtube compression that reduced the text size. I will have a look and see if I can change this using the edit function on Youtube. I intend to upload a short "private" video to test out the caption text size problem.

I should have mentioned, best viewed with coffee and biscuits to hand lol.
All the best.

Thanks MS, glad you liked it.

Producing this video was a double whammy for me, being the first use of Wondershare Video Editor. Not only cobbling the highlights together, but learning how to use a new editor from scratch.

Happy e-biking

Great video.. Do you mind telling what camera you used and how/where it is mounted? I have a gopro mounted on the bars but because it is bolted on it picks the engine noise up through the frame.
Cheers

Hi Phil.
If you could bear with me for a while, I will take some photos of the five camera mounts and other details. Unfortunately, I'm a bit pushed for time today, but should have some spare time tomorrow or Saturday.

All the best

Good video. You don't know how lucky you are (well, perhaps you do) to have such an extensive dedicated cycling infrastructure. Southampton's is rubbish!

Phill, too busy to do some photos, so will answer your questions here.

The Gopro internal microphone is useless when encased in the waterproof casing, and it's not much better when out of it. As you have found, it picks up most sound via vibration waves rather than pressure waves. The setup I use is the Gopro Hero3 mounted on the "chesty" harness. All straps are elasticated, so does not impede breathing.

Chesty harness

The external lapel mic in use is the Sony ECM-CS10. Other lapel mics can be used as long as they are fitted with a 3.5 mm jack

Mic

To use an external mic on the Gopro, an adapter cable will be needed.

Adapter cable

The mic adapter cable cannot be used with the waterproof housing, so you will also need an open frame mount.

Frame mount

Shop around for better prices if you like.

All the best

Video to be pulled.

Hi all, The video in it's current form is simply not good enough. A trial video showed the Youtube compression reduces text size by over 50%

Please be aware, The video will be pulled later today for re-editing. Needless to say, the embedded video in the first post will not work afterwards.

What about using photobucket or similar - you can load the original, or do your own level of compression. Then just post a link to that here:cool:

Hi Bob, thanks for the info. Have seen a package of various mounts on ebay so will look at those.

Hi Peerjay56, just a quicky.

Thanks for the comments, any day now I will be receiving my early-bird example of the "LIMA" device. This device uses an external hardrive and connects directly to my router. Files stored on that hardrive will be accessible to remote PC's with permissions supplied by me. This will be possible even if my own PC is turned off....my own personal "cloud"

Providing the remote PC has a fast broadband connection, The original post editing video could be downloaded and viewed, without any compression.

I take it that you mean this https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cloud-guys/plug-the-brain-of-your-devices
Won't that mean you'll have to create permissions for everyone who wants to see it? I experimented with a virtual server on my router, but wasn't confident about security, particularly as I couldn't be bothered keeping up with the latest tech and hacking issues. :)

OK, domestic crisis resolved lol, a whole hour to myself now.

Correct, it is a Kickstarter project, one of the better ones. As an early-bird supporter, mine will cost just £53 delivered. The device will be fully supported with security updates. I have discussed the security aspect at great length with an IT guy (that's him with his other half at the end of the video).

Just to clarify, The re-edited video will still be on Youtube, only those with a special interest will be issued with a one-time, time-limited password to access the Lima hardrive. Youtube is still the best currently available platform for vids. Apart from the text size problem, which I suspect is a glitch in the Wondershare Video Editor, there is only a very slight degradation of the HD quality of the post edited file.

PS. The re-edited video will be posted in "Electric Bike Videos" sub-forum

Have you tried vimeo.com ...
Hi Wicky,
Yes, I have looked at Vimeo as a possible platform. Unfortunately, Vimeo is very restrictive regarding uploaded file sizes. Exceeding those limits requires a subscription membership. The upload limits for the free bog-standard "toober" accounts are much higher in comparison. Thanks for the suggestion though.
