I have a small 12V compressor that I carry in the car, it's about 4" x 4" x 2½" and weighs less than a pound, it's a cheap Chinese job I bought for £7.99 from an English hardware store chain called Wilkinsons. It's fine for use on on a car but 36V from the bike battery may cause it a problem:eek:

More on 12V electric pump

My bike is 24V. I am considering 12V rear LED and headlamp running off bike power rather than replaceable battery just "because I can". I currently power a 5V satellite radio from AA batteries. I have a 12V to 5 V adapter. I suppose what I need is a reliable 24V to 12V converter. That would allow the use of an inexpensive lightweight 12V pump. Anyone have experience with 24V to 12V conversion for lights or other accessories?

Hi John,

something like an LM7812 voltage regulator mounted on a suitable heat sink (the frame will do!) will supply up to 1 amp for your lighting and radio, but a compressor requires considerably more current. The best I can think of is to temporally wire the battery in series-parallel for 12V, or just tap into the battery to use half the cells.
