My daughter is a Cardiff based professional dancer. About two years ago she was thrown off her bike (in front of traffic) by some clart opening the drivers door without looking. Then, whilst the poor girl was sitting on the floor in agony, proceeded to scream abuse at her for damaging her car. Broke her collar bone, weeks off work/training, loss of earnings etc. Fortunately she's a member of Equity and they fought her corner for her.
Last year she was rear ended and knocked off by some young buck who claimed she was too far away from parked cars. He was a bit 'embarrased' when the police happened along and found he wasn't insured. Ooops!
Consequently I always give parked cars a doors width clearance often to the annoyance of following drivers - but what are ya gonna do? It doesn't last long round here 'cos there's not that much traffic.
