Please know that i am realy enjoying th ebike and find it very usefull. it has been such a good purchase for me and will probably buy the new 906(if the cycle to work buget at my work is increasesd to cover the cost).
what are the genral pros and cons of closed and open BB. hope im not comming off as moan

It does depend very much on usage and choice of materials, a few months is a reasonable length to expect the pads to last but some can wear out in a few weeks.

The BB doesn't need replacing much at all but it needs to be adjusted and the bearings might need replacing if they have pitted, not difficult or expensive to do and with a 905 the BB can be serviced with £15 worth of tools rather than the more specialist tools some require.

Hi David

This is Norman's view;

It sounds like the bottom bracket needs stripping down and cleaning and regreasing.

If parts are needed I can provide under warranty.

The bike shop will be unlikely to be able to replace with a sealed unit as the Wisper BB is longer than a standard item and I would not recommend doing this.

The standard Wisper unit will give many years of good service but maintenance will be needed periodically depending on usage. Also servicing needs to be done primarily on a condition basis rather than mileage so if it feels rough or loose it needs checking straight away.

With all due respect, Norman is an experienced cycle engineer, and so cosequently has no issue with servicing such components. I just feel that in the same way most car drivers have very little clue or interest in how their cars actualy work, it's quite a big ask to get the end user (who by definition you have no knowlege of thier practical experience) to start stripping and refitting awkward parts of their bikes. Espescialy when one considers that sealed BBs have been ubiquitous for the best part of 20yrs.

You are absolutly correct Straylight, it is easier to get your local cycle shop or your Wisper supplier to do this for you, they will only charge a few pounds.

On the other hand I have serviced them quite often over the years and find it quite easy and interesting.

thanks with a bit of luck i should get to do that over the next few days, i would take it to lbs but its such a pest more the worrie i take it apart and cant put it back . im suee it will be fun once i get started.

cool i have taken the two sets of ball bearings out i cant see any pitting i have just soaked them in gt88 ill let them dry a bit and then loob them up. i hope i can get them stuffed back in there before i have too many more beers
or ill be on the bus to work tomorrow. any who beer to drink and window 7 to install and a bike to out back to together better get on and stop yapping.

Yes, you're right. I'd forgotten how many miles you do on those Wispers. You must be doing more than 7,500 miles pa. Punishing stuff for any bike. That's at least 5 times more than me!

Just as an update, I torqued the crank arm nuts up to 40Nm and 200 miles later, I haven't heard a single click. Problem solved !

Now if I can just stop this headset nut from working loose every 100 miles........

Where did I put that threadlock?

No more grinding got it all cleaned and back together there was a little scratching on the baring but i guess thats gona happen.
every thing seamed to be working grate till i moved hit the heigh button and nothing happened i assumed i would have to move the disk closer to the sensor.
but a little later i found out i had the disk on the wrong way as the power kicked in while i was moving my peadeals back in to position at a junction, that woke me up .

any way bike is tip top again thanks Dave Norman and every one for the help.

I got mine done this afternoon as well, it took about an hour in the back garden between bouts of keeping my kids away from the tools and loose parts.
