Citybike - anyone know anything about them?

Just appeared on eBay:

Doesn't seem a bad spec/price and apparently German manufacture. Seems on the heavy side (30kg) and NiMh batteries.

Seems a reasonable price and it's good to see more sensible looking electric bikes starting to appear.

Wonder what Flecc's view on it is?

As you say John, it's rather heavy and with a 8amp NiMh battery, range and speed will be somewhat limited. I think you could do better for that kind of money, how about one of these New Wisper 905e electric bike on eBay, also, Other Cycling, Cycling, Sporting Goods (end time 07-Feb-08 21:20:54 GMT) or POWACYCLE SALISBURY ELECTRIC BIKE BICYCLE - Lithium on eBay, also, Bikes, Cycling, Sporting Goods (end time 11-Feb-08 17:14:53 GMT) ?

Don't assume that the bike is made in Germany because the manufacturer is based in Germany, the USA based Marin manufactures its bikes in Taiwan, Schwinn manufactures in Taiwan, UK based Wisper manufactures in China etc. I think it's highly likely that this is made in China.

The 45 km range seems rather optimistic from what is a rather small battery, and although the battery is small the quoted battery weight of 2kg is impossibly light for NiMh, and if the battery is the lightest NiMh on the market why is the bike one of the heaviest?

The bike is a nice looker and may well be OK but without reviews or recomendations is a risk. There are established products from well known suppliers at that price that are probably a safer buy.

It would also appear that by bidding you are agreeing to pay unspecified carriage charges, not a contract I would be willing to enter into.

Looks quite costly to me .

It pays to have a good shop around , ask the peeps on here , they know their stuff when it comes to ebikes .

I largely side with the opinions expressed, adding that it looks like a step back in time, only the NiMh battery differing from the SLA in the photo below of Giant's first electric attempt from the 1990s. I also recognise some Chinese components and design details on it:
