I have decided on a Byocycles Ibex 26.

It looks like a mountain bike although the bike bits are clearly low budget.
It's a basic hub powered bike and is the type that I liked the most when I test rode a selection including a £2500 KTM

It's all Chinese components but if it works it works.

I'll let you all know how I get on with it when it's delivered.

Is there a tumbleweed emoticon?

94 views and no replies. Have I made such an appalling bike choice that everyone has been struck dumb with horror?

Waiting to see what you think when it's delivered, personally. I've got a kit that I had delivered a month ago - holidays and stuff delayed assembly, and now it's too danged hot in my shed to put it together!

It looks quite nice. You'll know how good it is once you get some miles and hill in. Keep us posted about it.

If I get it before Sunday I am going to take it to Rutland water, which will be a test of its range if not hill climbing.

There's a couple of serious bikers at work, one who does triathlons who are excited to give it a go too.

Our of interest, roughly how much have you saved with the C2W scheme?
With the final 13th payment to take ownership it will have cost me £760. Apparently some schemes run by some employers wipe out most of the savings but my one is pretty good. This will be the second bike I have got on the scheme.

I added up my payments and my £700 trek cost me £553 in the end inc final payment to transfer ownership.

I was more interested in using the scheme as an interest free loan with no credit check ;-)

I was going to get another bike but I retire on thursday (actually finish on tues as were on strike wed + thurs).

What an opportune time for a strike ! Will you have more time to share the details of your remote device that restricts the bike's speed unless you are within a few feet once you've retired ?

Clearly the actual bike components would add up to a pretty cheap bike so saying I broke even probably isn't far off.

I did consider going to Halfords, getting their £599 leccy folder and a Boardman hybrid that gets rave reviews as well. Then I would have used the Boardman on days when I felt up to it and the little folder on windy days. I may have even been able to transfer the eBike bits to the Boardman with the help of an LBS to fit the front hub motor in to the hybrid wheel, although the fork width may have been an issue.

The Ibex 26 is a very nice bike. Quick off the mark, motor kicks in quickly on rotation, and you are soon up to 15 / 16mph.

I think you will like it.

I don't want to share that info, for obvious reasons.

If you have a look at passive immobilisers for cars I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for though ;-)

Thanks for the info, that's good to know.

With pannier bags on you would never knows its electric.

Just ordered a special edition Charge Spoon saddle in black and green to match the bike's colours.

Oh and a new Joe blow track pump and sold secure gold D lock, and I upgraded my house insurance to cover it anywhere for the grand sum of £12. I also got my dog a new bed but that's not pertinent.
