Chinese electric bike won't charge

Hi everyone,

I've owned my 36v Chinese electric pannier bike for around 9 months covering 300 miles without issue.

Its been relegated to the garage for the last few months and upon fishing it out the low battery warning is now flashing on the display so I conmected the charger but the led remains green and the battery doesn't charge.

My charger is a 42v 2 amp.

I slid the battery out and tested the voltage at the pins and am getting 30.2v.

I've opened the case and can't see anything obviously loose or untoward, any advice where to go next would be much appreciated.

Whenever a charger won't charge, you should measure the voltage on the charger jack and the battery's charge socket. those two results will give you a good clue to what's going on. If there's no voltage on the charge socket, the battery's charge fuse has blown or there's some other connection fault which you should be able to fond by following the cvoltage from the cell-pack to the socket. If the charger has no voltage, its charge fuse has blown, a wire has broken or the charger is faulty.

Thanks for the advice.

You are correct, I wasn't aware there was such a thing as a charge fuse but having just checked it sure enough hidden under the handle was a 5amp fuse that had blown.

A quick change and we have a red light on the charger again.

Another happy ending. I'll sleep better tonight.

Always switch the charger on before plugging into the battery. That makes the voltages on the jack and socket much closer and stops the inrush into the charger, which causes a spark that can damage the connector and blow the fuse.
