Our runabout car battery is flat, registering about 2.5v and having never had a car battery problem for 20 odd years I've no car charger. I do have one of these imaxb6 chargers though and am wondering if anyone has used the pb setting which I am guessing is lead acid battery, and could offer any advice.

I've got one of those chargers. I can't actually remember using on Pb setting, however I would if I needed to. Lead Acid is a very forgiving chemistry, so there's not much to go wrong.

It won't charge much more than 4A (IIRC) which is a very low C rate, even for a small car battery. It may take a long time to get much charge into it, but it won't do any harm.

Sadly, if the battery is down to 2.5v though, it's probably fer-nackered.

2.5 volts isn't worth trying to recover (unless you don't rely on the car for work etc). Normally 5 years out of a lead acid is a good stint.

I prefer Bosch Silver batteries for cars.

If the car is sat for long periods you can fit an Optimate battery tender, basically just leave it plugged in and it will service charge the battery when necessary.
