Changing from from hub to BB

Hello,

I've currently been using a front wheel conversion kit from Panda Bikes, which is very good. However being rather large steeper hills are still a problem at times.

So I was thinking about swapping the hub for a motor that fits to the pedals instead. Trouble is all I seem to see are kits and I don't need new brake levers, LCD, etc. Any idea where to find just the motor & crank system?

You can't use your existing brake levers and thumb throttle with the 8-Fun BBS01/02 kits. They don't add much to the cost anyway (about $5).

GNG do a kit. It comes with a controler, but it's only a cheap one, so you canbput it aside and use your own. You will only need to conect the motor to it. The GNG controller is 22 amps, so, if yours is less, you'll get lower power, but it'll probably still be enough.

Alternatively, you can buy a freewheeling crank, make some brackets and use your hub-motor, like this:

Are any of these conversion motors available with TS now? I read here a while ago that there were to be some but I don’t know if they’ve come through.

@JC, Woosh were going to take on the XMAX CD kit with TS this summer but it seems they leave it too late for the season, they spent too much time on getting new batteries. Will have to wait until Spring.

Hi Alan,

The only piece of the 36V kit you got from us that would be easily transferable to another kit e.g. the crank drive you're thinking of getting is the battery. However the battery rack that came with your kit has an integrated controller and special output wires - so if you want to use that battery with another 36V kit then let us know and we will happily send you free of charge a replacement battery cradle that will just have the +ve and -ve outputs that you can then plug into another kit.

In terms of using the bits and pieces on another kit I think it's worth noting that you've got upgraded waterproof connectors on everything with the 350W kit you got from us, so it wouldn't be straightforward to keep and use those parts unless it was another kit with the same type of connectors.

If hills are your problem then it might be worth considering a Xiongda double speed motor as well? They give you a bit of extra traction when going up hill with the hill climbing higher torque mode.
You could technically use the existing throttle and PAS you got from us with this, but you'd need to to a bit of DIY on teh wiring to connect it up.

I think I've partially solve the problem by toggling the pedal assist up to 4 (normally on 2) and it took one of the hills causing me issues easier but I've taken on board all the info I've been given here. Very good kit, certainly helping me get out and about.
