Changing chain & chainring?

Wanting to change my 17T front chainring back to a 15T to help with riding up steep hills. My current 11 speed chain is reading .25 so not ready for changing yet but would it be advisable to change it anyway if fitting a new chainring?

KMC e11 chain £33
15T chainring £17
Replacement Bosch O ring £6

So £56 which aint cheap.

just get a normal 11spd chain i dont use a o ring and never been a problem but you will have to take some links out of the chain for the 15t and make sure there is some tension in the rear mech still.

Not even sure what the O ring is supposed to do?

i think it was to stop the lock ring coming undone but i use blue lock tight on that
