Chain skipping in high gears

I have a Carrera Crossfuse which is 3 months old and has covered 250 miles. The chain is starting to skip and jump when pedalling under load in gears 8 and 9 (high gears). Halford's warranty applies but they expect me to ride the bike to them for repair (I can't get it in the car) which could be dangerous with the faulty chain / gears. Is this something which is easy to fix? I can't imagine that the chain or gears have worn out already!

Sounds like the H stop screw needs adjusting or possibly some cable adjustment if there is slack. First though make sure there is nothing wedged between the two sprockets that might prevent gear change.

You can ride the bike to them if nearby just use the other gears up to 7 or 8.

Is the cable adjusted using the little plastic thumb wheel behind the gear shifter? I can't see anything stuck in the gears or cogs and I tried oiling it with hypoid gear oil. No idea where the H stop screw is!

The derailleur has three adjustment screws the main two are the two small L & H ones marked on the derailleur. The H adjuster stops the chain from smashing/grinding in to the inside of the frame, if it is skipping between two sprockets (8 & 9) then it might be the cause. Also check the cable length to ensure no damage has occurred to the inner or outer casing as any damage may also be a reason for the issue.

Yes also sometimes one at the derailleur cable entry.
Is there any slack/play with the inner cable ?
If unsure then if one is able to take/ride to Halfrauds, do so.

Sounds like the derailleur is not set up properly. Taking it to Halfrauds may not help as they were supposed to have done this in the first place.
It's easy enough to do once you've seen it done, there are loads of video's showing how. Here's one :

Maybe as it is under warranty it is in your interest to take it back, rather than fiddle with it, the more so IMO not really understanding the finer points of how these function.
If screwed up initially, then that's ramifications are down to their account, up till you get involved.

I've booked it into Halford's as it's under warranty and I don't want to break it trying to fix it!
