Haibike SDURO Hardnine SL 2015

I want to fit a narrow wide single chainring like this one: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ru/en/race-face-narrow-wide-single-chainring/rp-prod109723

My bike has single chainring with bash guard. What chainring bolts should I buy? I guess the old ones will not work since they hold bash guard as well and I want to remove it. Can you point me on those I need to get? Do I understand correctly that I need 104mm chainring? Is it possible to get narrow/wide on with more than 38t?

Here is the photos of my drivetrain: http://imgur.com/a/onZ5Y#0
I also wanted to replace 9 speed cassette/mech to 10 speed shadow+ setup

Why does it sound so?
Hardhines already have a 10spd rear cassette and the hub is metallic blue not black like a hardseven. A hardnine has a duel chainring not a single. Post some more pictures.

I reckon this mod will not be simple or cheap.

If you want a narrow/wide ring because the chain is coming off, have you considered a clutch rear mech?

Another simpler option would be a chain guide.

You are talking about HardNine RC, which is more expensive model, while I have a HardNine SL

I will be replacing rear mech as well. And yes I will definitely get something with shadow+ Derailleur is hitting the chainstay like crazy, to the point it dented it couple of places, not too deep, but it is possible to feel the dent with a finger. I already tried to readjust it, shorten the chain, tighten b-screw. Helps a little but does not solve the problem. I'll go to a local shop tomorrow, for them to measure everything, let's see what they will say. My bet is that 104mm ring will fit with the right bolts.

I agree, a front ring with the same bolt circle diameter should fit.

If you want lower gearing, another mod you could consider is an expander ring for the back.

I thought about getting a cassette expander. I think I will get one later. Mech+chainring+shifter+2 new 10 speed chains is 250-300$ already.

BTW Has anyone tried one of those Clarks e-bike rated 10 spd chains? Like this one: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ru/en/clarks-10-speed-e-bike-anti-rust-chain/rp-prod120265 Do they really wear out slower? Is it worth getting them?
I can't comment on the Clarks chain, but their brakes are known to be cheap and nasty.

A KMC chain would be a safer choice, and no more expensive.

Why do you want to take the bash guard off?
I put a larger chain ring on my full nine and it just screwed straight on with existing bolts.

Interested to see how you go changing the rear mech. Will you get more top end speed with that mod?

Main reason to remove the bash guard is that I think it will look more badass with just one orange chainring. Plus I don't really need it, I don't have terrain with rocks or something locally. Changing rear mech should be straitforward. I don't know if I will get higher top speed. Well one of my initial goals was top speed, but I did not find 104 narrow/wide type chainring bigger than 38t, which seems to be the same size as my current chainring (I did not count teeth on stock one, so maybe new one will be a tad bigger). As for cogs the smallest one is gonna be same 11t, so I believe this upgrade will only solve the problem with chain/mech rattling very loud (which is extremely annoying and is good enough reason to upgrade for me!) without changing gear ratio by considerable amount. It is possible to fit 11 speed SRAM setup, which has 10t cog, but price for this one is quite steep for me. ~200$ for cassette only add the rest including compatible rear hub and you are looking at ~600$ upgrade. I will keep looking for bigger chainring though. 42t narrow/wide for 104mm would be really sweet though!

P.S. I just placed an order on 38t front chainring with XT mech/shifter and SLX 10 speed cassette. Let's see how it plays out! I should receive it from chain in 2-3 weeks or so. Unfortunately Moscow is across the whole Europe. And russian prices for components are just ridiculous.

Just in case someone will need the info on transmission upgrade. I've taken my bike to a shop couple of days ago. The results are: 38t Race Face narrow wide chain ring did not fit. Spider paws are tiny bit wider (~1mm) than chainring paws. Mechanic in the shop told me that it would cause chainring to be loose if fitted. 10 spd dérailleur/cassette/shifter fitted without any problems. The only thing is that I bought 11-36 cassette and medium cage mech, which as I was told can potentially cause problems, as mech bends too much on the big cog, so I should be a bit careful when riding in this position. However it works for now, i think I will replace the cassette to smaller range one when it will wear out. Also cable housing on my Haibike comes in a single piece, so new 2 piece housing did not work either.

Can anyone tell which aftermarket chainring/chainguide would work? I checked prices for chainguides and they seem to be quite expensive to the point that it might be cheaper to buy a front mech and use it as a chainguide.

I am wonder if you finally tried to put the 38T in your H9? if you tried to fit this in and see how it will work? despite of the a little different BCD.

I found on ebay Doval system which does not have a round holes and works. http://www.ebay.es/itm/DOVAL-Bash-guard-MTB3032-MTB-BCD104-Minivelo-BCD130-Bashguard-DOVAL-Chainring-/131474155593?var=&hash=item1e9c786849:m:m1AOwpi4gUs1rCyaQU5jGRA

Could you tell me what size chainring you have originally in H9?
I found out that that shimano 3 spd chainrings fit. 2 spd and 1 spd chainrings don't fit. I had 38t chainring originally.

So you fit in a new chainring? :) What size do you have now?

Did you feel something strange/unsusual in electric support now? Less fluency? shaking? less efficiency etc.?

I though that all Shimano MTB big chainrings has same BCD 104 mm.

I have 48t chainring now. I wanted to fit 42/48, but it did not work because the inner chainring touched chain stay. Unfortunately I did not test it yet, because weather where I live is horrible.

Yes, the spider paws are a bit wider, so the shorter chainring nuts doesn't reach through the spider. But the original bolts and nuts will work with a Race Face N/W chainring. Place the chainring so the big RACEFACE print doesn't show and thighten bolts. My local dealer says they've done this several times. But the nuts will have limited contact with the chainring. You can flip the nuts/bolts so the allen bolt faces the bike frame, you probably won't get to the bolt with an allen wrench so you have to losen the spider or use a big flat screwdriver to thigten the nut. Not sure if the chainline is good enough with this spider though...
