Hi everyone, I'm not new to cycling but new to electric bikes having just purchased a secondhand CE_Deluxe Model. It has been stored unused for sometime and I fear the battery pack may have deteriorated, a full charge only powers me approx 2_3 miles! I need to know what type of battery pack this is? together with the motor Wattage rating, also if anybody can e_mail possible service information/maintenance details etc. The handle bar cowling has three half moon dials, two set aside each other have green/amber/red lighted segments. They both display the same information, and together either show amber or red on increasing motor load, but also show similar on a declining run. (Is the motor trying to hold the bike back?) and why two dials. The third dial set in a centre position under the other two obviously shows remaining battery power. As an electronics engineer I would be keen to have a circuit diagram also, should I encounter problems in the future. I did request help from the distributors CE_DIRECT_EAST but they were unable to oblige. No other details on the bike, but appears to be well built. Sorry for a lengthy note, but keen to go electric. Cheers Merv.

Your bike uses sealed lead acid batteries ( SLA) which don't like being out of use and not charged for long periods, so you'll need new ones. Inside the casing there are three 12 volt batteries connected in series, so if you buy replacements they are easy to put in.

These can be bought from Maplin, from various ebay suppliers and some specialists.

The two duplicated meters are just for show, a rather silly style item where one would have done. This sort of thing is quite common on "shopper" e-bikes. The third meter below might be wired differently to give a more accurate reading of battery state when riding, less affected by the throttle opening, but you'll be able to tell that better with new batteries.

Most of the information you require is hereI think.
The battery is quoted as 36V and given the weight will almost certainly be lead-acid, you'll need to open the pack up to determine the dimensions of the individual batteries before ordering replacements.

I think you'll be very lucky to get a circuit diagram, I've never known a Chinese maker to publish one but generally things are pretty simple, especially with brushed motors which this bike is likely to have.

Many thanks for your info, I have since opened the battery pack and you are correct_3x batteries in series, so I'll seek replacements. While free wheeling down hill, does the motor still have speed restriction control? as these two meters go into the red, or does the motor act as a generator!! kind regards. Merv

i just typed ce deluxe into google and got some stuff, see if thats any help
Yes thanks, I've had a look, the one I have is black and silver (The front basket has been removed) _ not street cred is it, otherwise not a bad looking bike with a 180 watt motor. I notice bikes with motors over 200w advertised has the legal limit moved up a notch! _ Thanks for taking the trouble to assist. Kind Regards Merv

Motors do generate, but that one is unlikely to have a regeneration facility. It's probably generating enough to indicate that on the meter. What this indicates is that it doesn't have a motor freewheel.

Most e-bikes have an integral freewheel making it easier to pedal when the battery runs out. Don't let yours run out, since you'd find it tough to pedal as you'd be spinning the motor as well.

Any motor speed restriction, if there, is still in force downhill, but I suspect the restriction on yours is merely the fact that it's geared for legality, the speed you get to being that which the battery voltage produces. That's the normal way, and it indicates you should shut the throttle going downhill, as leaving it open just wastes current uselessly.

According to the info given on the website the large meters are simply a speedometer, which is why they give high readings going downhill. The smaller lower central meter is the battery charge indicator (fuel gauge) but like all of its type will only give an approximate indication.
