Carrera Crossfire-E membrane battery power button crack

I just noticed today that the membrane power button on the battery of my Crossfire-E is slightly worn and cracked. I am getting worried that rain water will get into the battery since this happened. Has anyone else had this problem with the power button and is there any covering I could use to cover the button. Please advise.

PVC Electrical tape is very adhesive, waterproof, and flexible.
