Hi all
I have a Carrera cross fire bike
I am looking for a solution to charge in the camper van, I can charge using a small inverter, this works ok but is not very efficient
I would like to go directly 12v - 42 so a step up power supply is probably the answer
any suggestions? Adjustable supply - would set to 41 v would need some current limiting
The battery pack has a 5 pin socket So need to understand what the other 3 pins are for ?
Many thanks for any thoughts or suggestions

cheers
Simon

It depends which Carrera Crossfire it is - the older ones use SF-06 batteries with the 5-pin SVD connector; newer ones are different.

Powatecnic in Sheffield make 12v-36/42 direct chargers for e-bikes (but these are limited to 1.5A), and also faster 3A 240V chargers with the SVD connector...

The extra charger pins are for temp, overcharge, and hand-shaking protocols, so you can't easily cobble something together using a simple buck-convertor.

In many ways sticking to a normal inverter is by far the easiest/cheapest option, but all options use a lot of capacity out of your starter/leisure battery.

Hi thanks for the thoughts
The inverter pulls close to 8 amps when charging the leisure batteries are 195 amp hours with 260w of solar so on a sunny day the solar can support the charging with no draw on the leisure batteries
Cheers
