I have got 2 Ezee bikes; a Chopper and a Cadence.

Because the Chopper has small wheels it only does 13mph under power. Can this be de restricted to get the speed up a bit. It would also be nice to do the same on my Cadence but it is not such an issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm afraid not, there was no restriction on the Sprint and Chopper in the first place. Of course the 26" wheeled Sprint came first and could run to around 17 mph on a freshly charged battery, but when the Chopper 20" wheel version was launched, it inevitably meant the top speed was reduced accordingly by the ratio of 26 to 20, meaning that 13 mph maximum.

Your Cadence is also a Sprint variant of course, the cruiser framed version.

A bit if history here, when the Sprint prototype was originally launched it was known as the Forza, a name that was eventually used on a much later more powerful model.

Thanks flecc. I was hoping otherwise. The Cadence has been excellent with 17mph and 40 miles ish so far (I am still conditioning). The problem I have is I find it pretty irritating waiting around for the missus to catch up on the Chopper doing 13mph and of course it would be nicer to improve on the 17mph of the Cadence if possible. Also the Chopper gearing is pretty low as well so there isnt much she can do about it.

I have had a look around at the Alien kits with a view to buying her a 26" or 700c bike and putting a kit on it but then I have read about the drag when free wheeling with the direct drive Alien motors which I dont fancy.

The quality of the Ezee bikes is top quality IMO its just a shame they dont go a bit quicker. I dont really fancy forking out £1300 ish for something like the Whisper 705 as I have already spent quite a few bob on the Chopper with 14ah battery.

Does anyone know of a good quality kit that could be put on a standard bike that would give similiar performance to the Cadence?

Although not cheap, one solution is the eZee kit since that enables the maximum use of your batteries and gives the sort of power that you are used to, indeed a bit more. It is controlled to 15 mph though, like nearly everything now, and best suited to a disc brake bike as a disc is supplied with it. Here it is shown on the Cyclepoint website, though Onbike are the agents now:

1. Make own bike with 14ah battery: Kit 436 + Battery 500 + Bike 500, (Ladies step through with suspension and disks, ish) = £1300 to £1600 purchase and sell Ezee Chopper without battery.

2. Buy Whisper 705 or Ezee Sprint and sell existing Ezee Chopper = £1300 purchase but then I can sell the Ezee Chopper including battery.

Its not the end of it as there are other bikes I could be looking at but since these bikes will be used to go up and down a few hills rather than predominantly on the flat I would have thought that this was a good short list to narrow things down to. Maybe I need a trip to 'onbike' and have a go with the different bikes

Option 2 looks best, but try before buy I think is essential. The Sprint is probably the best performer of those two to match your Cadence's 17 mph, the 705 limited to 15 mph I think.

Hi Notty

All you need to do is replace the current 200rpm motor wheel with a 250rpm motor wheel. This will give assistance to about 16mph.

We also have users using the 300rpm 20” getting assistance to 20mph. Though these motors are very heavy on the battery though!

The motor wheels cost £250 and include a Marathon big apple tire on the 20” or Marathon plus on the 26” and 28”.

You need to check if the Chopper has a junction box on the front forks as the new motors come with a short lead. Older Ezee bikes approx 3 years + come without a junction box so the wiring needs terminated which is an easy job but only if you have the correct tools!
The 250 rpm wheels were in stock last week but we may have sold out as I have not been in for a couple of days. If you want current availability please drop me a mail info@onbike.co.uk
