Help! Buget ebike for a budget of €1500 for leisure cycling

Hi there , any recommendations on an ebike at this price point ? I hear that a little lower than this and the motor is in the wheel while at this point the motor starts to be found in the crank , any recommendations on a good quality bike appreciated

Thanks so i see that it isn't really a specific bike or brand but more like trusted uk dealers who sell Chinese E bikes of a certain standard , I am not sure about decathlon most of there other stuff is pretty low end.

Mmm depends how you catagorise Low End. There is a fitness for purpose element but from experience I wouldn't put them down as crap. Nor the other brands mentioned from the positive experience of others you may read of anecdotally.

At £1500 you are not going to get something cooed over in a cycling glossy. That doesn't mean you won't get a perfectly serviceable eBike though.

The 2 below, at £1299 are probably among the cheapest crank drive bikes available in the UK at present. Some may warn you off Plant X as a reliable supplier though. The Frappe 300 represents great value with a 500wh battery and Shimano Steps E6100 motor (60nM)

I didn't go for a crank driven motor, as, apparently, if they go wrong outside of warranty, they can be bloody expensive to repair, so I opted for one with rear hub drive. I bought an Oxygen S Cross MTB MkIII, which I'm very pleased with, along with many others

I am very interested in these two , what is the biggest difference between them , is one a better bike ? Is the Steps motor a lesser motor than the E6100 ?

The E6100 is a Shimano Steps drive as is the E5000 just one will be more powerful then the other in torque figures.

Have you thought about how you're going to fix any electrical issues when these bikes need it? Buying bikes cheap online might seem a good idea until they need fixing. You can't fix a Shimano system without the specialist equipment.

There might be local dealers, but they will almost certainly bump up prices and may be uncooperative if you didn't buy the bike from them. Have you checked out who and where your local Shimano ebike specialist is and what their attitude is?

Have you checked out how Planet X deal with warranty problems?

That's the problem with online retailers, bikes will have to be boxed and returned for repair. Also warranty isn't transferable.

it's a lower spec motor and 418wh battery plus 200 quid more than the city 300 I linked to, so not so much a deal. at 1299 with that spec I might of taken a risk with planet x
