I have a problem with the brompton front hook. It is getting lose and no longer hold the bike when it is folded.

I tried to screw the hook tight but still getting loose over time.

I have seen other using custom made hook but I can't find the link

Anyone has a solution?

When you keep undoing and doing it up the nylon thread inside gets torn/worn.

I am assuming you have the two metal plates installed correctly.

To repair the nylon thread disassemble and squeeze in a few drops of super glue. Poke it around a bit with an old nail or something that will fit in the hole. Leave it over night to set. Don't reassemble it straight away or you will never get it undone.

Once you have let it dry overnight you should then find the bolt goes back in nice and tight :)

Eventually the nylon fatigues and the hook snaps I have found, though for me that took a few years of daily use.

One of these?

Brompton Front Axle Hook M-Type | Evans Cycles

I don't have a brompton but my guess would be the nylon side has worn so is working loose. Be careful not to overtighten if you get a replacement as the nylon will be the weakest thing so gives first.
Thanks. Actually I am using the second one and it is still having the problem.

Maybe the motor is too heavy ?

I will gonna try it. Thanks for the tips Jerry.

One more thing, do you know one of our members using custom made hook (like steel hook)?

I could not find the link here.

Thanks

No not seen that.

I guess a heavier motor might do that though the hook is not really carrying all the weight when folded.

PS the original hooks were a metal loop with a plastic covering.

Thanks Jerry. As the gap between the shaft and the hook is too narrow I need to fix the hook in a really solid way. This plastic hook wont let me tighten enough to keep the screw in place.

I have got a new plastic hook from brillant bikes and it still wont let me screw the nut tight on the metal loop.
