Brompton conversion: Woosh vs Boost Vs Swytch

Hello. I'm looking for a Brompton conversion... any suggestions very welcome!

My thinking is:
  • I like the very reasonable cost of the Woosh system and seems to be well thought out for value, though it doesn't look very neat and I want to be able to take the battery off easily when I lock it up to go shopping and I don't think their kit allows that (the bike is too heavy to cart around when shopping)
  • I like the look of the very neat Swytch kit and the fact I can easily detach the battery for security. But I can never get an answer from Switch about how the controller works, e.g. current sensing, power levels, capacity, etc. Plus I'd have to wait 56 years for one on order to have the discount...
  • The Boost one seems to be very neat and powerful but a bit pricey...

Hmmm.... anyone done this themselves? Any reviews ? Any alternatives?
Thanks!

Search the forum for Brompton threads, there are several recent ones. Add Cytronex to your list of options.

Basic question you need to answer is range required, and therefore how much battery capacity you need. Some of the offerings are truly pitiful on that measure. No point spending best part of £1000 on inadequate range.

You could do the Woosh conversion with a "seat post" battery, that is lockable and detachable and either install the battery mount on the seat post or on the front as I did here

a lockable seat post battery sounds good... don't see that on the Woosh site but I can ask. Is that a 'frog' battery ?

thanks

True. I like the Woosh one for very good value and range. Just a little concerned about security mainly. I.e. ease of removing to take the battery with me when locked up, and/or lockability to the bike, so it can be left on the bike for a few mins when stopped.

thanks

There's a couple of variations on that theme. I got mine from Yosepower, but you can get higher capacity ones off Ali express.

I got this one :

But they also do a frog battery (you will need 36v)

Indeed an electricfied Brompton is way too heavy to carry around a shop.

So I just dont. Mine has a decent set of wheels on the rear rack and its very easy to push around (folded) in the shop like a shopping trolley.

None of the bother of removing and replacing the battery either, that stays in place.

No need to leave it locked up outside at risk of being nicked either.

I fitted the woosh kit with frog battery, very neat, battery locks on to the mounting block that fits onto the bag mount block. The frog battery could be improved with a white lense on the light, the red lens is useless for the front.

I fitted the Woosh kit with the Frog battery about a year ago. I am very well pleased with it - more range than I need with pedal assist and powerful enough to take me up hills to places I last cycled when I was only in my seventies!
