Broken Bafang?

After cycling my bike up a rather steep hill i think I may have done something to the motor. Its a 250w bafang 8fun. After taking on the hill the motor seemed to be working ok for about 5 minutes, this time included a couple of stops and starts, and then it stopped working. When i twisted the throttle the just jerked a little, like it was only getting powered for one small part of a revolution, very jerky and no pulling power.

Anyway i removed the motor to check the gears and they are all ok, but i cant work out how to remove the other cover(where the wire goes in) to get at the connections from the wires. Does anyone know how to remove this cover? And any idea what i may have done to the motor?

Sounds more like a problem with a connection rather than a motor.
The motors themselves are quite robust.

Ys, the most likely problem is a faulty connection between the motor and the controller, There's often connectors in those wires and unplugging and replugging those can cure this sort of problem. Some have just 3 power wires in the cable, but most have those three and 5 thin sensor wires. In those the five wire connector is often the cause.

The connectors if fitted will be wrapped in insulation which you'll have to remove.

Could be a hall sensor problem. The hall sensors are often the first thing to fail when the motor overheats. How many wires connect to the controller - three thickish ones or 3 thickish ones and 5 thin wires. If it's the latter and it's a problrm with the hall sensors, you can switch to a sensorless controller that doesn't use them.

From memory, there's only one removable cover on the clutch/gears side. A little tap the shaft on the other side and the whole motor comes out of the housing. If you get the motor out, you should be able to inspect/test the hall sensors.

hi andy12,

you have wich motor from 8-fun?

if you need a opening tool for SWXK or SWXH Motors, contact me

"d8veh" is right, most time is one hall-sensor gluwing or the connecting is brocken
Hall-sensor (spare-part is some cent) can fix but i would reconmend a sensorless controller in this case. To change the sensor is´nt a fast repair and more for a elektronic-guy. I have done this one time and i will never do it again ;-)

The mechanic of the bafang is stabil, except BPM Clutche´s so it should be an electronic problem.
