Bright Lights

I have been keeping an eagle eye on the web for a bargain in the front light department for off road use and in preparation for the inevitable on set of the dark Autumn / Winter nights.

I already have a cateye halogen bulb set from a few years back which was good in its day but is very bulky and needs to have the very heavy battery pack secured to the bike to work and is really only any good for commuting.

So, I came across this offer.......

I bought two! after Jemma the young girl in the shop in Newcastle demonstrated how good the beam was compare to ALL the major branded names costing two to three time the price and boy were they bright in the shop.

I put them on the bike tonight (simples) and have been off on a jaunt in a near by forest trail which is shady even in the brightest of sunshine and was not disappointed.

Handlebar mounted they illuminated the full trail under the darkest of canopy and when we came home I had them on the lowest setting (210 lumens I think) on the road and you could see car drivers looking at them and not me - very re-assuring - and they are just great value for money; 1400 lumens combined for under £60!

I always buy Cree LED lights from Alibaba

Stupid amounts of lumens for very little money, a 5 Cree LED light with 4500 lumens will cost you 20 quid, the 4500 may not be technically correct but they are effing bright.

You can prob find these cheaper

I'm not averse to buying items from China (and waiting for them to arrive) so am very interested in these. However, my real interest is in finding a light/system that DOESN'T have to be fitted to the handlebars but can go on the front forks (or somewhere). This is because my handlebars are already short of space due to all the other controls and gadgets I have on it. Any ideas?

These ones are pretty good because they run directly off youre bike battery. You can remove the bracket, smash it flat and then bolt it to your fork bridge, where you bolt a mudguard. You need a switch too, which Banggood also supply.

These ones are pretty good because they run directly off youre bike battery. You can remove the bracket, smash it flat and then bolt it to your fork bridge, where you bolt a mudguard. You need a switch too, which Banggood also supply.

Thanks. Unfortunately, I'm not confident enough to start tinkering with any wiring associated with my battery (well, not at this stage, while my "soon to be delivered" Big Bear is still under warranty). It'll have to be something with its own battery.

My lcd display connector (the compact Kunteng one which elifebike sell) has two extra wires going out into a separate connector for a light. Would it work just to connect the two wires from the Banggood light, onto these two wires which are designed for an ebike light (assuming I can work out which is positive and negative? There is a button on the display which operates the light on/off -would be such a labour saver to be able to do it this way rather than figure out wiring it through the battery.

For the money those Bangood ones are fantastic value and really bright, I have 3 one for each bike and also use one as a rear with a red filter.

It is brighter and a more controlled beam, but it's not so easy to mount. You have to make a custom bracket.

It might work. I don't know what the power rating is of the transistor that switches it on.

Yes, big difference between the two lights. The first one (quadruple optic) uses four 5050 LEDs with a total output of approximately 88 lumens. The second one uses a single XM-L LED with an output of approximately 1,000 lumens. Far more focussed beam too. However it's not as easy to mount a d8veh says, and is dazzling for other road users when on HI.

There's not a big difference. I have both. The first one is about as bright as a single T6 XML, but it gives a much wider spread of light. It's perfectly adequate for nighttime riding on unlit paths or roads. The second one gives a more controlled beam. It's better for riding on the road, but it's a little harder to fix to your bike.

Is there something more suited to running from the Bosch system? I think the front light output power is 8W max and the rear 5W max (I need to check my manual when I get home from holiday.) I know I can't connect my 10W light.
