If you've already got a bike, an electric conversion would make sense then. At least you'd be happy with its fit and handling. A conversion isn't difficult. Any ham-fisted amateur can do it with a bit of instruction from here. We've had many done over the years on this forum by people, who professed to be technically incapable.

You can buy cheap roadbikes from Ebay, Facebook, local ads, Gumtree, Shpock. My friend recently went to pay £10 for a 10 speed one that was advertised on facebook. I can't remember the brand, but it was a reasonable vintage british one. When he got there, the seller let him have it for nothing. It had a beautifully worn in Vintage Brookes saddle on it, which I would have paid £100 for on its own. The saddle got transferred to this bike and was then sold, unfortunately:
