What is all the fuss about A Level results about? If they aren’t happy with their grades, they can sit the exam for real. With the lockdown and restrictions on socialising, all that extra time will have been spent studying, so if anything, results will be much higher this year, after the re-sit. #nosympathywhatsoever. #stopmoaningandfuckoff
But, in the absence of the actual teaching for five months? This would be asking pupils to do self guided home schooling, and pass. If it worked it would be a great low budget alternative to schools and home schooling. Perhaps we could permanently close unis and ask students to study on their own at home and only come in to sit final exams.

That makes sense in Britain where graduates come out to either unemployment or employment in the ever increasing multiplicity of unskilled jobs.

Ultimately we could just get back to teaching only the three Rs, leaving it Johnny Foreigner to do all the clever stuff.

Basically the A levels is evaluating knowledge gleaned from 16 years of formal education. Now while loss of 3 months tuition is very regrettable, it is not catastrophic...

The problem with leaving it up to teachers to predict exam grades is as follows: Fat necked, shaven headed Brexit Dad is going to march down to the school and fill the teacher in when his little princess doesn’t get the grades she wants.

I had a similar epiphany a moment ago. Was having green tea with oh while looking at moor hen on chalk stream at bottom of garden as part of lunch break (between zoom and Microsoft teams sessions). Told her I love the lockdown (beat the hell out of being stuck in traffic the tube wasting life etc).
And none of it would have happened without boris and grayling et al. If we had an adern there wouldn't be any covid and I'd be somewhere on the metropolitan line. I unconditionally love boris.

The problem with leaving it up to teachers to predict exam grades is as folly: Fat necked, shaven headed Brexit Dad is going to march down to the school and fill the teacher in when his little princess doesn’t get the grades she wants.
Ones gotten take the rough with the smooth. Perhaps the message of brexit(a but like xmas) is that were a nation of limited fat necked complainers. Everything will be just fine. Once the wheels comes off brexit we can skip rejoing the eu and just ask a friendly nation like Germany to take over the running of the country and herd us into pens and feed us (they already manage most of our industry and utilities)

Pandemic Theme Park is on track which will need staff.

And presumably we are still having May's / Johnson's celebratory 'World beating' Brexit festival sometime soon - again get folk to work there for a bread roll

I passed my maths O-level and A-level. :)

I can count!

ONE
Covid-19 outbreak sandwich factory supplies M&S
The sandwich factory in the East Midlands where almost 300 people have tested positive for coronavirus (see 3.21pm) supplies Marks & Spencer, according to the BBC.
TWO
A banana distribution centre in Coventry is working with public health officials to contain a coronavirus outbreak, Sky News reported.
THREE
Earlier today, the World Health Organisation downplayed the danger of coronavirus entering the food chain by latching onto packaging.

WHO head of emergencies programme Dr Mike Ryan told a briefing:

People should not fear food, food packaging or delivery of food. There is no evidence the food chain is participating in transmission of this virus.

Even if I were convinced beyond doubt, I'd hesitate to eat a sandwich or banana (from those places) right now.

Plus there's how did the virus unexpectedly pop up in NZ after 102 days
Sleeping viruses don't lie. Unlike the UK government.

Speaking of counting, public health England did not release the number of new infections today " due to technical difficulties". And we only have hospital deaths (I think 18). I wonder which sycophantic nhs manager cummings have been leaning on..

To be totally authentic then we need to alter this slightly to.
Fat necked, shaven headed and heavily tattooed Brexit Dad.
It’s usually Brexit mum who has the tattoos. A rose on the shoulder is a favourite.

Just an interesting Brexit observation. Today is the first time since March, I have driven in a northerly direction from Dublin. During lockdown there was extremely limited travel and my car usage was minimal.
Now I am not familiar with the UKs vehicle licence plate sequencing and letters used to denote year of registration. I am however familiar with Northern Ireland registration .. a 4 digit sequence and 3 letters ,one of which is an I or a Z .
Well I started noticing that virtually No UK registered car had the EU normal circle of stars or the logo identification of UK, GB or NI . All the rear number plates looked fresh or new. Actually I did see 2 cars out of the 50 or 60 I observed .. One was a mainland UK with the GB and another was a Scottish car ..with GB and a small saltare. The majority, as one might expect were NI
I am sure that the majority of these cars were more than a year old , so would originally have had the standard EU plate , but somehow and somewhere the message has gone out to replace plates. The irony is that they are now making themselves illegal ,as they are in a different country and without national identification. So they have forked out perhaps 15 sterling a head, for an unnecessary operation.

Don't worry, no-one will notice:

The government has quietly removed 1.3m coronavirus tests from its data because of double counting, raising fresh questions about the accuracy of the testing figures.

In the government’s daily coronavirus update on Wednesday, it announced it had lowered the figure for “tests made available” by about 10% and discontinued the metric.

An update on the page read: “An adjustment of -1,308,071 has been made to the historic data for the ‘tests made available’ metric. The adjustments have been made as a result of more accurate data collection and reporting processes recently being adopted within pillar 2.”

The Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) said the changes affected data reported between 14 May and 12 August. It said there had been “a double-counting of test kits that had been dispatched”, “which had not been removed from the lab’s processed data”.
