The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) in Seattle predicts 66,000 UK deaths from Covid-19 by August, with a peak of nearly 3,000 a day, based on a steep climb in daily deaths early in the outbreak.

If this prediction comes even close to being correct (no idea how likely that is) then do you folks think the Government would be able to spin their way out of it? Even with the support of most of the press I doubt that they could.

I really hope we don't get anywhere near these figures and hope we keep below the 20,000 which I think is still what the Government is predicting.

In view of the ongoing corona issues we are having him cremated and the funeral for himself that he had already arranged and paid for will be deferred until next year to allow relatives and friends to travel to Dorset.

I think instilling a managed level of fear into people is a useful and necessary tactic. We don’t want to cause hysteria and panic, sending everyone bat-**** (sorry) crazy. But,people need to be frightened enough to take this seriously. Kids need telling that they might end up with no mum or dad at the end of all this.

have a higher risk of reinfection after finding surprisingly low levels of Covid-19 antibodies in a number of people discharged from hospital.
A team from Fudan University analysed blood samples from 175 patients discharged from the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Centre and found that nearly a third had unexpectedly low levels of antibodies.
In some cases, antibodies could not be detected at all.
“Whether these patients were at high risk of rebound or reinfection should be explored in further studies,” the team wrote in preliminary research released on Monday on Medrxiv.org, an online platform for preprint papers.

At least 51 patients diagnosed as having fully recovered from the coronavirus in South Korea have tested positive a second time after leaving quarantine, according to officials.

The patients from Daegu all tested positive in a “relatively short time” after they were given the all-clear from their initial infections, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said, according to the government-funded Yonhap News Agency.

A specialist team has been sent to conduct an epidemiological investigation in the city, which is the epicenter of the epidemic in South Korea, the agency says.

For now, the KCDC’s director-general, Jeong Eun-kyeong, believes it is likely the infection was re-activated after remaining dormant in the patients, as opposed to them being reinfected, the report said.

Condolences to you flecc. I have been wondering about your brother’s health since you mentioned his situation. I hope you are ok.

I'm ok thank you. I have the comfort that whenI visited him last in September I was able to give him a very good day.

He'd had to give up driving afew years earlier, so with the weather kind to us I spent a day driving him around all his old haunts where there had been developments that he wanted to see. My e-car was a completely new and enjoyable experience for him too. Then in the evening I treated him to a top class meal of his choice in the best restaurant in the area. He thoroughly enjoyed that day which made a considerable change from his usual routine.
