HA! Poverty as re-defined by all the bleeding hearts - meaning having an income of 60% of the median wage. WHICH IS LIKE ALL OF US HAD BACK IN THE 60s.

ie - according to the Guardian and their idiot readers EVERYBODY in the 60s grew up in 'poverty'.

B********s. Just total complete b******s.
You are contradicting yourself, you started on "we" are much better off, and it is a fact. I put "we" in quotation marks because I started out better of and slowly worked down the ladder. I am not better off but I have better quality of life.

We are still in so many ways a very primitive species. It's terrible how we let people suffer at the end of their lives. We treat dogs better than humans. If a dog is that sick we put it to sleep. Humans no - we force them to suffer. Terrible. Just so terrible.
Careful! You just posted something I agree with!

Convicts?

We have a surfeit of those.
I don't think Australia will want Rolf Harris back.

New Zealand did take John Mark Tanner who murdered his girl friend and served an 11 year sentence here in Britain. Not wise through since they've now sentenced him to two years nine months for punching his new girl friend there, so I doubt they'll take any more.

NZ kicked out an extended family of Brit "travellers" a few weeks ago for trashing everything they touched, NZ has some class.

Actually there is a pathway to an extension for this parrotsite (sic) and it is based on a meaningful vote.

She can kick the can till the end of March and have one more 'meaningful' vote but this time on the premise that if it fails she goes to the country for a General Election. A lot of MPs are only in this for themselves and a lot of MPs know that come the next election day they are out of a job. Nicky Morgan, the screeching one, Yvette Cooper on the other side etc. So May will hope this will get them to fall into line. If it fails as it should she gets an honourable way out. We get another 18 months of this ****** and the can becomes ever more battered.

This depends on her having honour of course.
You are either willfully ignoring or missing the point, an extension to Article 50 is the one option not open to the British. They can crash out, they can accept the WA,warts and all, they can rescind their decision to withdraw...and that would be a meaningful vote. The only option they do not have is an extension. That requires unanimity amongst the 27. That will not happen just because Westminster wills it so.

Whatever you want to call it there will be an extension if we need it.

I suppose there is nothing to stop us withdrawing A50 and then submitting another A50 notice the following day. That would give us a 2 year extension. Not a very neat way to extend, but it would do the trick.

Apples aren't perishable short term, they are commonly stored all Winter long and have been for centuries. They can easily be shipped from New Zealand in cooled containers.

The problem as I see it is what do we sell them to pay for the apples etc? Same goes for Australia, they want to sell to us but what do we send them to balance the books?
.
Why do we need to 'balance the books (a misleading term in this instance)?

You've got Trumps disease. There is nothing wrong with a negative balance of payments.

I have one - for example - with my local shop. I am forever buying things from them and they never buy anything from me. SO WHAT?!!!!

The whole point of 'wealth' is being rich enough to buy stuff from 'outside'. All a negative balance of payments means is that we're rich enough to buy stuff from outside the UK.

If and when you 'get' this simple concept please go tell Trump because he sure hasn't understood it.

I did flag this up as a possibility earlier. As a way for a spiv to behave,it might be accepted, for a proud nation it would not. An immediate response from the EU would be a new WA, with nothing in it. The telephone number in Brussels would be changed and the British invited to send all requests by email. The extensions to the travel arrangements would atrophy after three months. . The old WA would be dead. A new EU parliament elections this year would make ithe old unratified WA void.
It is rarely wise to box clever with bigger organisations. Ireland learned that between 1925 and 1936.

so, following your theory, Germany ($296 billions), Japan ($175 Bln), China ($162 Bln), South Korea ($85 Bln) are getting it all wrong because they have huge trade balance surpluses and GB with a huge trade deficit is heading into sunlit uplands (-$91 bln, second largest trade deficit in world ranking, only after USA).
People like me worry about nothing, isn't it right?

Simple thought experiment. Imagine a country where none of the people have jobs - they all make money off stocks, property and savings interest. They buy stuff from outside the country.

Result - a perfectly sustainable system with a continual negative balance of payments.

Earth calling Donald Trump.

It doesn't matter. Really. It. Does. Not. Matter.

What matters is you have the money to buy stuff. End of.
