I still believe that TM and Michel Barnier have already got a secret deal but they have to get it through parliament against apparently unsurmountable opposition. Little by little, the debate is no longer on finding a word to call the EU's customs union, it has become accepted that we will still be in the customs union in 2021 and possibly even after. It costs the EU nothing to throw TM a lifeline so she could save some face which is to allow the UK to exercise a break close in 2022 after the GE.
To break or not to break that is the question
And frankly it isn't up to her, is it?
Leaving the EU will be the most dangerous mistake ever perpetrated on the whole population of this so called United Kingdom.
Without giving the people a chance to choose, anyone who goes ahead with this is taking a frankly dangerous gamble, that almost certainly guarantees chaos.
Such an act would destroy completely what little trust the nation has in the rule of the House of Commons
The only safe course is to seek a mandate.

we haven't left yet and even if we leave on schedule, nothing is going to change while he UK digests the news and evaluates the consequence of divergence.
I still believe that we should join EFTA after leaving.

nothing is going to change
Have you not seen what has already changed?

Lost European Medicines Agency
Spent an unbelievable amount of money in so-called planning and so-called preparations
Lost who knows how many companies
Prevented proper investment
Precluded proper forward planning for all of us
Seen almost every other proper activity of government get ignored

I am quite sure others could extend this list hugely.

I honestly do not know whether to stockpile food or look forward to huge discounted sell-offs when the stockpiles of commercial operators are sold off because they were not needed? Whether to keep going on my current prescription cycle, ask for early prescriptions from GP, or buy my own?

Add onto that the social crisis where considerable portions of the population are at loggerheads. The political crisis where once acceptable and understandable differences were capable of being moderated to today's gobfest of intolerance.

Shades of the Monty Python sketch
You do realise I will quote you on that, don't you?

The slime bags have found something they can support which is difficult for most of us to disagree with. Of course, both are in the party of government which could have acted years ago, even during the coalition, had they really cared:

Jacob Rees-Mogg and Boris Johnson join FOBT rebellion

there is really no need to stockpile anything, otherwise the Pound would have tanked well below $1.30
Even if parliament is gridlocked and incapable of consenting to TM's deal, there are still two escape routes: suspend A50 or a mini transition deal to WTO and to allow some kind of temporary customs union until parties can come up with their new and better prospectus for people to vote on..

Paper tigers they might be but they have already caused massive and disproportionate damage.

One day we’ll wonder how these Brexit fanatics seized the nation

Polly Toynbee
Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees-Mogg are only paper tigers. A Commons vote will expose them for the paltry force they are

Has the country ever been so badly governed as by this out‑of‑control Conservative party? The moving remembrance on Sunday of the end of the first world war reminds us of a time when an even worse government accidentally plunged the country into a far greater cataclysm. But short of war, the folly, incompetence, ignorance, obstinacy, stupidity and delusions of the party that brought us to this crisis are unparalleled.

This Brexit vandalism in the middle of a cripplingly long recession is brought to us by a party that has taken leave of its senses. The world looks on aghast, amused, amazed and maybe pleased to see our strutting on the world stage punctured by our own absurdity, as our influence ebbs away.

Agree or disagree - this is a pretty damned strong article.

So just why the untold millions of pounds spent on creating new cold stores, on advance purchasing medicines, on the generators for NI?

Your "no need" smacks of utter complacency. If all those in position in Tesco, Boots, NHS and energy hadn't planned and we really did need it, we'd all be complaining.

Both situation are calculated and intended to cause hurt & humiliation. One via a racial theme, the other by being demeaning. It’s the intent which is unacceptable, not the means. In both cases, I profoundly disagree with the principle of a group of people planning, funding and executing a plan to deliberately hurt and humiliate another person. The situation is aggravated when the target is the elected leader of another country who has been appointed in accordance with the electoral rules of that nation.

So to answer your question, no I don’t see any difference. In both scenarios I see people making a determined effort to hurt, demean and humiliate. Both equally bad.

Yes Tommie, and so did I, but I am prepared to concede that the world has changed, there are new alliances, new trading blocks, and the UK of 1970 still had the vestiges of an empire around it. As our mutual friend Yeats said " all changed ,all changed utterly, a terrible beauty is born ".
