Countries want to join nato for their clause 5, mutual protection, because they have the common enemy with other nato members. Why is it difficult to understand? It costs money and sovereignty to belong to a supra national organisation. You wouldn't want to do that unless you have no alternative.then why has nato breached the 1991 deal not to put NATO weapons' and bases closer to there boarder.
Trump's preference for nato common enemy, Russia, creates an opportunity for Europeans to detach from the USA. They can't wait any longer and will spend as much as it takes to do this before trump does another u-turn.
At the rate countries are selling us treasury bonds, us interest rate will remain high while they come down elsewhere, pushing the us economy into recession. I reckon trump will u-turn after u-turn. Like brexit, trump's ideas can't work in reality. In 2 years, Congress would change hand.
Just think if you're German, wouldn't you like your country free of occupation forces? German parliament gave their government 500 billion euros to spend on defence. With their 5 trillion dollars GDP, how long do you think before they will have the best equipped army in Europe?
