My PC has an Intel 80386 and runs at 20 MHz. It’s super quick and Windows 3.11 loads in minutes.this is 150 quid cheaper.

Would I notice much difference if I upgraded to the AMD chip? Does it just plug into my existing computer? It has a serial and a parallel port, so all bases are covered. I was thinking of going for a 486 66MHz machine, but now you’ve made me wonder if there is something even better than that. How do the two compare please?

no as to get the temps down you will need to de lid it and that voids the warranty and other cpus 5000 had there memory controllers burn out because of heat.
the ihs is 1.2mm to thick so it can use the older am4 coolers
Back in the day, we bought a lot of AMDs for their lower cost, and too often they burned out, whereas Intels oulived their motherboards several times - not a single burn-out. i think i had about 5 abit nf7s mother boards back then fkn name is burned in to my brain those cpus had no ihs so had to clamp the heat sink on with that crappy clip you needed a screw driver to get the fkn thing on.

Motherboards stop being produced quite rapidly as new CPUs are introduced - it's why I have two brand new replacements mothballed in storage for all my PCs, so I'm not scrabbling about on eaby for half dead compatibles in a few years time. If they don't get used, I'll make a profit selling them on as "New, unopened, never used".
Server motherbaords are built to last, but these days I avoid them because they usually include management engines, which are unnecessary security risks. But I do miss my Supermicros...

They'll be able to export "Low power" CPUs to China... then sell them features if relations ever improve. Each new CPU + factory/retool costs over $1 billion, they'll save money making fewer CPU hardware versions.
