We sometimes have done, but it takes time. Those who fled from Kenya some years ago found their way into their former skilled jobs.

But now we can't, since the priority is to stop uncontrolled immigration, not just for our own sake but for the sake of the countries who are being drained of their potential by the lure of economic gain. If we start employing all the illegals, their numbers will hugely multiply to nobody's benefit.
.
It's better for our economy to prevent illegals working and to spend fortunes recruiting others?

If we spent on training what we need, that would make more sense.

Completely ignoring this fact I just posted:

"If we start employing all the illegals, their numbers will hugely multiply to nobody's benefit, least of all those migrating."

We cannot employ them due to the huge harm that will do, a mistake Germany made and has now had to get back under control. Employ them and you'll see Africa and some other countries emptying at an even more uncontrollable pace.

the facts seem to contradict that view.
All those come by rubber boats are deemed illegal and yet, nobody gets sent back or to Rwanda. So where do they go? What do they do? Most are in fact allowed to work permanently, only some temporarily.

We are not in control of recruiting from around the globe. That is being forced on us by our inability otherwise to source the required skills. And we still need to provide some sort of support even to "illegals".

A little lesson in reality. I haven't noticed rubber boat loads of pensioners crossing the channel.

It's mostly the young who leave, those who due to their age don't own property and capital possession like cars to get taken. It's the young who rise up against their society, like the students in Hong Kong who have caused all the trouble there and the rioters who smashed up our high streets in 2011. Have nots, they have nothing to be taken

The older and wiser don't leave and don't feel the need to, being fully acclimatised to their society and often approving and supportive of it. That being so, their system you are so critical of supports their loyalty and doesn't take their possessions.

There's a job waiting for your natural aptitude in the western propaganda departments.

That's just a bit too entitled, smug, unthinking. Those who rose up against the chinese regime in Hong Kong risk a great deal more than property (but often that too, many are affluent, middle class students). Theres not a lot of wisdom in colluding with corruption, autocracy because one has a vested interest

Precisely because the numbers make control so impossible.

To say the facts contradict that view is ludicrous when it is so widely accepted that to officially open the door with employment creates a multiplication of illegal migration. The whole of Europe during recent years is the proof.

Ultimately this mass migration will have to stop or at least be drastically reduced by control, unless we want to end up with Brazilian style favellas surrounding our cities, together with their levels of poverty and crime.

Capitalists like those in Hong Kong, today have a very good life in China. Those in Hong Kong who rose up against China wanting to have a single government for their one country were being very silly since they could only ever lose. Hong Kong is and always has been wholly a part of China, just rented out on a 99 year lease up to July 1997.

As ever we caused the troubles, this time by the arrogance of Chris Patten thinking he could impose rules for separate self government after the end of the lease. If he'd never done that the people of Hong Kong could have settled into the reality instead of imagining a fantasy future. They did after all have an alternative since we opened the doors to all three million to come to Britain if they preferred.

it's not the number though.
Firstly, more migrants arrive in France, Germany, Spain, Italy than UK.
Secondly, our government declares them illegal because of their method of arrival but subsequently, accepts most (about 90%+) of their applications. If our government declares only those whose applications have been rejected as illegal then the headline number and public perception will change for the better. So if you say 30,000 crossed the channel, that sounds more dramatic than 3,000 illegal migrants have crossed the channel.

But this migration is still not in any way a good thing, no matter how presented or what EU country is involved. In every country including here the migration is creating big problems. And the great majority are economic migrants, so many of the countries they are coming from are being depleted of their young and often few skilled, sinking their economies even further.

In our very lopsided world there are really only two national options for dealing with migration. Rigid control and return, or a free for all accepting the decades of chaos that will bring.

I'm personally not against a universal totally open door to allow the world to eventually reach economic equilibrium, with our advantaged countries poorer and no longer attractive, so self solving. But the route to that would of necessity be a painful one.

BoE statement just now: we'll not hesitate to raise interest rate.
KK has nothing to say.
BBC journalists are queueing up to explain why our economy is in such a mess. In so doing, explain also why KK is an idiot.
Labour gets a free gift.

BTW, the market expected the BoE to increase interest rate today to at least 3%.
The BoE did not do that, the Pound falls again after the announcement.
My guess exchange rate will continue to fall overnight and the BoE will have to put up rate tomorrow.

It’s now down back below $1.07, having recovered to $1.09 earlier this afternoon.

I reckon it'll be 1.03 in the morning.
The BoE has no gold reserve, we have a huge deficit in the balance of payments, an economy in recession and need to borrow immediately an awful lot of money to keep the boilers on this winter.
Liz Truss still believes she can give us a world beating economy. Pure folie.

No, an apposite reply to JA's post.

The truth often offends those who still have the colonial superiority attitudes.
.
OG may have many faults and certainly lots of qualities, but levelling that one at him is ridiculous, which, I, m afraid, seems to be the norm for your posts concerning Russia.

You seem to have a bizaar notion that both living in Russia and Putin's current actions are somehow reasonable. I wonder how much real experience you have of living under the oppresion of such regimes.. Yes, your points about USA have been well made repeatedly but living in a society where armed soldiers arrest protestors and enforce voting in invaded countries is by any normal, sensible definition barbaric.
Putin is a gangster, he is black mailing the entire world with his threats of Nuclear destruction. He is no better than Hitler or Mussolini. Probably worse, he has his nuclear arsenal. He is dragging the world back to the middle ages. Perhaps a clearer critique of his actions from you Flecc might be productive, rather than this continual" it's the fault of the USA".

No i do not. My post to JA and OG's response to it were about Syria and its government, not Russia. This is the trouble in here, people not sticking to the subject and imagining what is posted. See below.

Fully agreed in every detail and I've said similar. I could give you many incidences, see this warning from me for example, with the link that it's from:

"Overwhelmed by these immense odds against him, who knows what a trapped brutal thug like Putin might do. I suggest to satisfy his immense ego he might end his life by taking everyone else with him as far as possible."

That is my view of Putin.

Trouble is like all in here you want it all ways, totally one sided with no mention of what the other side sees and reacts to. Well you are not going to get that from me, since I will continue to stand in other's shoes and comment on what they perceive and what they sometimes do that is right and good as well as the evil they do.

When it comes to all the hostile Russian actions since the end of the cold war, they have all been directly due to the stupid hostility of the USA and it's refusal to accept that they wanted peace but within a communist framework. I suspect that with the cold war ended you, like so many, sleepwalked through the 1990s and early 2000s but now pretend you were closely watching events back then. Clearly you were not or you don't remember them.
