That's being silly and showing your bigotry on this subject.

Most of what the Guardian publishes are quotes direct from Barnier who makes perfect sense. He says what I so often said in the last four years:

“I do wonder what, until now, has prevented the UK from becoming ‘Global Britain’, other than its own lack of competitiveness,” he writes. “Germany has become ‘Global Germany’ while being firmly inside the EU and the eurozone.”

He could have said similar for Sweden, Denmark, The Netherlands, France and even Italy and Ireland, all successfully trading globally from within the EU.

Brexit is a disaster for Britain and will remain so.

Time you all grew up. We, ve left EU. Our involvement in the experiment is over and much as you all like to imagine we will return, we never will. It's simply sour grapes and remainers insisting on doing what they do best. Find negative aspects and moaning about them. Barnier is a has been and only a touch biased... He messed up. As EU did.
Oh, and by the way, we still have a Tory government, a failing Labour Party and Boris in power. Things aren't going to change anytime soon, irrespective of all the noise made by Starmer, Cummings (now one of your heroes?) or Barnier.

He couldn't be worse could he?? Failed EU negotiator, was involved in disastrous vaccine roll out. Perfectly qualified to replace Micron.

The article posted the results of a survey in State involved. 20% of ecar owners went back to Ice. How is that silly?
We are years away from infrastructure for even a quarter of us to drive electric cars. You are in same dream as flecc.
They are as yet a non starter for 80% of drivers..
Mate has a Tesla, how does he drive to Cornwall?? He can't without hours planning and hours waiting. Its rubbish.
Driving to work and back daily, it's fine. Weekend and holidays he, s stopped using it. Bought a Range Rover. Great for environment. 2 massive cars instead of 1.
Or perhaps get a hybrid. Drive about in a diesel car with 400kg of emotors and batteries. Brilliant idea.
Could always buy a generator for boot of Tesla. That would work...
Electric cars and Hybrids in their current form are biggest con in automotive history.
They can't and won't work for most of us. Imagine a car that could only hold 2 gallons (at most) of fuel and it takes 4 hours to put it in. Nobody would buy it.

Bias based on relevance and fact is sensible, bias based an irrelevance and falsehood isn't.

A quoted but unsupported 20% returning to ICE in the USA with its very long distances has no relevance whatsoever to us, so why post it? Especially your raising it as a reply to a completely different subject.

Here's some facts:

The Guardian is very left biased, but with facts, such as what Barnier actually published. The Mail and Express in contrast regularly publish outright lies which they know to be completely untrue. Ergo the mature among us see the difference that the Guardian is the more reliable source.

The Tories and Boris Johnson are indeed in power with Labour in the doldrums, and as you rightly say, that isn't going to change at present. Indeed I'm expecting the Tories will win Hartlepool.

The reason is simply the same stupidity and incompetence of the British public that prompted them to vote for Brexit. The same blind incompetence and stupidity that led us to fail so comprehensively in almost every international market from 1950 to the present. The same lazy incompetence that means we won't even pick our own vegetables, preferring, despite our out of control debt, to borrow even more to employ others to do it for us.

Britain is an idle, spent, washed up nation at a fork in the road. The British people will soon have to make their choice, either completely change their behaviour and lose the lazy assumption that we are in any way superior, or continue downhill into second or even third world oblivion and irrelevance as a quaint tourist destination.

You are right that telling the people how dumb and poor performing they are doesn't win votes, but neither does not telling them. All that does is let the country slide further down the terminal slope we're on.

What utter nonsense! Today's pure e-cars work for most of us.

Average annual mileage of male drivers is 9000 miles, equal to 173 miles a week or about one or two charges of today's e-cars.

Average annual mileage of female drivers is 5500 miles, equal to 106 miles a week or less than one charge of today's e-cars.

Only a very small minority of drivers regularly drive very long distances, most only very occasionally drive a long way and many never do. A few chumps buy an unsuitable car and then like you foolishly and wrongly say they are no good for everyone else.

What you seem to miss is that almost all the charging is done at home without our involvement.

It's happening when are indoors with our feet up or fast asleep. Think of all the time saved on up to 98% of our not having to fill up at fuel stations, far more time that we spend on an occasional long journey in charging.

It gives us 200 mpg cost, even 400 mpg in some cases.

And finally there's yet again your silly fabrication, this time 2 gallons and four hours to put it in. Even my over three year old loads the equivalent of 4 gallons (160 miles) in 40 minutes from a commonplace rapid charger and the newer ultra rapid chargers with this many of year's models load at two or three times that speed, according to model.

That it takes eight hours to fill up at home while I'm asleep at home is irrelevant.

Pure I.C. cars, vans and even trucks and buses are about to largely disappear for good. Some of our excessive or inappropriate driving will disappear too, no bad thing.

If you live in or near a city, I agree they are fine... But all folk I know do many short journeys with quite occasional longer ones. Holidays, weekends away, events etc. Just explain how one would suit any of my mates doing weekly round trips to coast (circa 175 miles) with no charging at destination.? Yep, probably do it with 3 miles to spare... Then how on earth do I (or anyone else) plan a trip to Barra or South of France (when that becomes possible). Its a complete none starter.

And that's before we start the logistics at filling stations. Assume 50% of folk go electric... Time in services would quadruple, so they, d need to be 4 times bigger. How's that work?
Ecars work fine as the exception. Once we get anywhere near large numbers for them roads will grind to a halt.
As for your argument justifying Guardian. Utter BS. Yep, agreed Mail and Express are biased, prejudiced... Call it what you want, but Guardian is no better. Its actually worse because it hides behind a veil of decency.
Our media is appaling, all of it. None of them seem capable of simply reporting facts and news. They all put their own narrative into it, and at that Guardian is the worst.
Express and Mail are a blanket, shot gun approach to biased news. Guardian is more targeted and unswerving. Its corrupted many on here and amazingly they don't even see it. Seems including yourself.
We all deserve better media than the one we get. Guardian should be on list with many others of being stopped.

Tesla and a few top end cars were an exercise in getting silly fast cars accepted as green cars. Which they undoubtedly are (fast) , but they ain't fast and green.. But utterly soulless, and utterly useless on long journeys..

Be realistic, how many drive to Barra or the South of France? As I've just shown you, for the great majority e-cars are very convenient and entirely practical. So what if an occasional ultra raidcharge taked 15 to 30 minutes during an occasional long run when I've saved all the many hundreds of times of pulling into fuel stations, standing at the pump filling up, going to pay etc. Add that lot up and it's far more time, and often in uncomfortable circumstances.

You are so far out of date. How's that work? Very well thanks, it's already working fine.

We already have a number of charging stations with up to 36 rapid and ultra rapid charge points each, compare that to the typical 4 to 8 pump ICE station. If you only but knew it the speed of progress on charging is phenominal with charge points more than doubling ICE fuel stations already and soon more than trebling.

Happening from now, the national EV charging station roll out for BP Pulse will include state of the art ‘hubs’ of between six to twelve chargers, as well as the next generation of ‘e-forecourts’ with up to 24 ultra-rapid chargers (300kW) with on-site solar PV and battery storage systems supplied by Leclanche SA. The e-forecourts will have both retail and convenience facilities for drivers while they are waiting for their cars to be charged.

Shell have announced similar, multiplying by over 8 times their existing charge points, showing hoe the ICE fule copmanies are panicking to catch up with the independents.

All this is essential since the need will be there so soon. Peugeot won't be releasing any new ICE cars after 2023, Jaguar-Land Rover and Volvo after 2025 and some others will also be abandoning ICE by then. Long before the 2030 deadline the choice of ICE cars will be very much smaller than now.

However there's one thing you are completely missing on the charging subject. All ICE filling up is done at fuel stations. Over 90% of all e-car filling up is done at home, so we don't have to replace the filling stations with even more charge points than pumps. Charge points are mainly only needed for the minority of longer runs.

And we'll stick with charging at home since its so very much cheaper.

Look, I love driving mates Tesla. And most other electric cars I, ve driven have an immediacy often lacked in many cars. In some ways they are great... But they do not solve our transport issues, do not represent the green credentials every body thinks and have very serious flaws at moment.
My everyday car is a 2.0 Diesel Jaguar XF. Its great. Really quiet, fast enough when asked, would hold 120 mph all day long, carries 5 in comfort with all their luggage. Handles fantastic. Averages 48mpg and if taken steady can do 60mpg. Costs £30 a year to tax. I could fill it with fuel and do 600 miles. (I have done) It takes 10 mins to refuel. I don't have to plan journeys around filling stations, if one is busy I, ll drive to next. Tell me an electric car that can compete. There isn't one... Yet... And I suspect taking production into account, rare metals and battery life I bet environment wise mates Tesla does very similar damage as Jag does.
And that isn't mentioning the fact our electricity generating system couldn't cope charging all our cars even if we had infrastructure to charge them all. Its all a con. Tick box environmental gains.
