The real meaning of brexit.

New Welsh factory at risk as Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos looks to make cars in France
Billionaire Brexit backer may ditch plan to build heir to Land Rover Defender at Bridgend, putting jobs at risk
<...>
The decision to scrap plans for a new car plant in Bridgend, South Wales, spells further economic pain for the local community already reeling from news that Ford will shut its factory later this year after after more than 40 years.

Many of the 1,700 people working at the 60-acre Ford site halfway between Cardiff and Swansea had hoped to eventually find employment at the new Ineos plant which was under construction next door.

It would also mean that Ratcliffe’s British successor for the Land Rover Defender will use an engine designed in Germany by BMW and built in France. The Brexit supporter, and one of Britain’s richest men, left the UK to live in Monaco in 2018, just months after receiving his knighthood.

Indeed the real meaning of Brexit. As I posted three years ago, it will all end in tears and regrets. I feel particularly sorry for the Welsh who only voted very marginally to leave in the referendum, since from the days of coal mining through to the present, they have suffered far more than their fair share of industrial shutdowns and failures.

Very much a case of we are all equal but some are more equal than others.

As has been said many times within Wales, the traditional Welsh areas were less brexit than some of the, shall we say, more English areas. Not meant to be a hard divide but I know absolutely at least two people who are very much incomers who are among the few I know voted for brexit. (I really don't know that many people to even know how they voted - just based on a minute personally known sample.)

Send a sample crate of UK Champers / Newcastle Brown Ale* to Strasbourg...

Funnily enough...

*Move to Zoeterwoude Brewery, the Netherlands
In 2017, Heineken announced that some production would move from the John Smith's Brewery, Tadcaster, to the Zoeterwoude Brewery in the Netherlands. The company claimed this would allow for shorter order lead times and faster transportation to the U.S. and allow distributors to purchase by the pallet rather than the container.[18] In the last half of 2019 the company started making a different version in America and ceased importing Brown Ale from Europe. As of September 2019, Newcastle Brown Ale is still brewed in Tadcaster, Yorkshire for the UK and some EU markets, and also in Holland for the export market.

A young chap (31) local to me survived but came home in a wheelchair unable to speak after having a stroke and other complications.

And yes after the 1918 pandemic it led to numerous cases of Encephalitis lethargica (Sleeping Sickness) which Dr. Oliver Sacks wrote about in his fascinating book Awakenings, and which was made into the film starring Robin Williams.

Another U-turn. (Or is it a V-turn?)

Analogue radio given 10-year stay of execution as the UK U-turns on DAB digital future
Great problem of our time solved: Classic FM won't have to rebrand as Classic DAB

Good, the only reason to adopt crap DAB was to release more bandwidth for the government to sell. That's already gone much too far with TV having rubbish transmission standards on many channels, sound quality in particular suffering badly.

Yes it is good that FM is retained. It is a pity that DAB was not developed to use its potential. It could have given full spectrum noise free FLAC ..not flecc, quality sound

Indeed. But DAB started at a disadvantage from the outset with the BBC adopting the inferior Musicam compression system, so it was already clear which way it was going.

In our brave new world money always trumps quality.

Over the past few months, we have seen and heard more people "broadcasting" from their homes using very modest webcams than ever before. I can put up with relatively poor video (so long as it is not freezing and breaking up) but bad sound is very difficult.

Getting older and having a notch in my hearing already, I struggle if the treble end is poor. DAB is always significantly worse than the same material on FM, internet or Freeview. If I were even more curmudgeonly, I'd raise it as an accessibility issue.
