When you are played in a docu-drama by Benedict Cumberbatch I think you can say you have become well known. I watch a lot of American news and financial programmes. I have heard DCs name mentioned reasonably often in them, I would not be surprised if viewers of these programmes know him far better than most of our cabinet ministers.
He played a major part in winning the Brexit referendum and also winning the GE, he is undoubtedly a smart individual but as TM said he broke the spirit of the law and if he had 1/10th the honor of someone like Lord Carrington (credit to flecc for reminding me of him) he would have resigned weeks ago.
Cabinet ministers say off the record that he has more power than they do, he controls access to the PM, if they want to see Boris they have to go through him. How many other advisors have been given their own press conference in No10s rose garden. Its amazing the power this unelected official has, I wonder sometimes has he got some dirt on Boris that he is holding over him.
Or (more likely) is Boris absolutely reliant on him because DC is the only person in Government who actually has some idea of what he is trying to achieve. Boris I think is just trying to get through the next few years without making too much of a mess of things, hoping to lie and bluff his way thorough. Then bow out before the next election and cash in on being an ex PM.

Can't say I'm surprised with what is going on in the USA while Trump is in charge only thing that is slightly surprising is that all this didn't happen a couple of years ago. I am not condoning the violence, looting and rioting but having Trump in charge is like throwing petrol onto the flames. He is totally the wrong person to try and bring communities together, he thrives on splitting people up and setting them up against one another.

Due to the on going difficulties experienced in the world today, a capitalist, a socialist and a communist decided to get together for a socially distanced barbecue. The capitalist and the communist turned up on time but the socialist eventually turned up over an hour late.
He apologised for his lateness but was sure they would understand that while on his way he had spotted a queue and asked what it was for. He was told "The butcher has sausages" so of course I joined the queue and look (triumphantly indicating his wrapped package) I have half a pound.

European countries have begun to roll out COVID-19 contact tracing apps that take advantage of the Exposure Notification API designed by Apple and Google, with Italy and Latvia both launching new apps over the course of the last few days.

I'm from Latvia and I'm very happy how successfully our government (and society in general) has reacted to this pandemic. Early action, support and trust in scientists, no stupid protests or riots - and we are literally down to zero new cases since yesterday. And we've been gradually reopening for some time already (cautiously monitoring situation, of course).
The app "Apturi Covid" ("Stop Covid") also looks good, installed day one. I have zero problems to trust this Apple/Google based temporary solution and, frankly, I trust our government too.

The Northern Ireland assembly has unexpectedly voted in favour of calling for an extension to the Brexit transition period, arguing that the UK government cannot impose complex border checks down the Irish Sea while Britain is occupied with the coronavirus crisis.
In a surprise development, nationalist, green and social democratic parties held sway in Stormont, saying business cannot prepare for a no-deal Brexit in the middle of a pandemic.
The motion proposed Matthew O’Toole, the SDLP’s Brexit spokesman, had not been expected to carry after opposition was expressed by the Democratic Unionist and the Ulster Unionist parties.
O’Toole, a former Downing Street adviser, said London would have to take the vote seriously as the assembly was “uniquely recognised as a named party in the withdrawal agreement” and Stormont had a substantial role in the implementation of the Ireland and Northern Ireland protocol.
