Late this afternoon, heard a familiar whoop-whoop. Familiar from a place I used to work which was on a regular flight path - for Chinooks. Looked up and saw one flying pretty close by and very low. Seemed to be heading towards Milford Haven. Could have been Castlemartin (tank range), Bluestone (being readied for recovering patients), but no real idea where, nor why. This is not a regular occurrence.

The government is facing increasing pressure to boost the number of coronavirus tests being carried out - particularly for NHS workers. @TomSwarbrick1 asks: how well do you think the government is handling this crisis? https://pic.twitter.com/gGiSrNWcO3

My response
oldgroaner@oldgroaner
This government is organising things about as well as the British Generals overseeing the battle of the Somme

Did you see the purported PM's rant last night?

Back into bluster mode. Ready to put "30,000 ventilators" on the side of a bus?

Absolutely **** loads of catchphrases there & absolutely no new information. We've been looking to 'ramp up' tests for ages now. Antibody test was talk two weeks ago as well. And please stop saying 'thanks to the miracles of modern technology' about video calls. It's tedious.

EU on the brink: Boris told to quit Brexit transition to protect UK from economic fall out
BORIS JOHNSON has been warned not to delay the end of the transition period and distance the country from the eurozone to avoid being caught up by an economic fall out triggered by the coronavirus pandemic.

Do these idiots imagine we will be able to survive on our own in this ship of fools?

Even the current speaker, who seemed to want some glory but not to upset applecarts, has got to the point of intervening.

Mind, leaving it to the end of the month is unsatisfacory. Should be done on an "as soon as possible" basis with a recall the moment it is implemented.

UK to set up virtual parliament during coronavirus shutdown
Speaker had requested move to allow MPs to scrutinise government’s response to crisis
.
A source said the plan would be in place by the end of the month. There have been calls from across the political spectrum for MPs to be allowed to scrutinise the government remotely at a time of enormous social upheaval and as freedom of movement is being curtailed by new laws to encourage physical distancing and self-isolation.
.
The Speaker also asked if it would be possible for the government to set up a forum of MPs during the recess, possibly via select committee chairs, who could quiz senior government representatives at set times on different days.

“MPs are being swamped right now with questions and casework from distressed constituents who need answers,” he said. “Responses cannot wait for the house to sit again.”

A hundred MPs from Labour, the Scottish National party and the Green party wrote a letter last week to the Commons clerk, John Benger, asking for his support in setting up a form of digital parliament.

The Express have found something to blame the EU for
"
Boris blocked from claiming EU unemployment rescue cash despite UK's budget contributions
BORIS JOHNSON will be blocked from using Brussels' cash to fund the UK's rescue package for workers impacted by the coronavirus crisis.

No doubt this will appeal to their idiot supporters

Would someone please edit the world? "This coronavirus doesn't discriminate." What a sadly pathetic and trite phrase. As if flu and all the other viruses did discriminate.
Or is it a case that they only killed off the plebs as desired by government policy?

Look how Germany has protected its citizens. Look how many ventilators, testing kits, hospital beds and subsequent deaths they have. Compare their government’s response to ours. Which team would you rather be on?

I hope Doctor Erm, Ah, Erm, Erm, Ah isn’t on telly tonight. She does my nut in.

Might be so - but that wasn't the virus doing the discrimination, 'twas society (or whatever you want to call it). The one that leaves some people without any shelter and others worrying only about whether they are richer or poorer than Bezos.

Britain has traded individual liberty for a terrifying state omnishambles

And you at the Telegraph had a major part to play in creating a situation that brought this shambolic government to power didn't you?

My reading of that is that (for once) the paper is being fairly sensible; clearly reporting the concerns over government strategy and not trying to downplay their relevance.

They easily could have laid into the experts (they would have called them 'experts') and said (I put words into their mouth) now is the time for unity; people should pull together and not criticise the government.
