Since 2004 electric bikes were banned in New York
As below

"Any two wheeled vehicle that can move without Human assistance or NOT be registered as a motor Vehicle is illegal to use on City Streets"

Are you confirming that this 2004 law has been rescinded?
In fact there's always been plenty of e-bikes used in New York, including by our members like RobNYC and they've rarely been troubled by the police. Not only that but one of the USA's largest e-bike dealers, Nycewheels, is in New York City, selling from their retail premises!

However, the law is changing and pedal assist bikes up to 20 mph are ok now. See this link

We've had this discussion before you were proven wrong.

Again.
We haven't had this discussion before, it's the first time I have mentioned it and I was posing a question, so tell me instead of imagining you have proved me wrong, do you know the answer to the question?

And do try to stop trying to be a smart ass.

Are they largely home produced, or imports from the Far East, do you know?
I really can't see any UK manufacturer setting up to fully manufacture and sell Ebikes in competition with China, but it would be nice to be wrong about that.

The repetition and constant questions with you become tiring.

I bet if @flecc was minded he could probably find the discussion. You were as belligerent then as now.

They must love you in the care home.

Ireland
Staples like what?

HP Sauce? Heinz Ketchup? Marmite? Diablo wine? Baby stuff? Meat?

They are all owned by massive conglomerates apart for the meat and that was a chain too.

Hugely over priced. As I say. Nearly three times as much as here.

And I'm still confused about this frozen food place. Was it based in the UK?
No it is in Dundalk. And operated from about 1990 with what then was state of the art equipment. It was opened by Heinz, making those frozen ready meals
. Rice, chicken , currys . Eventually sold to an English group.
And yes those are those are the kinds of staples i am referring to. The British distributors would have those contracts with the global suppliers and ireland is such a small market, they would never bother to have seperate deals. What was and is happening is that Polish, and German brands are making apperances .. in fact our local shop, part of one of the irish chains is now stocking French Nestle chocolate at similar prices to France... and my summer favourite.

What are you on about? you were wrong yet again, and as usual, respond with as infantile response
There was no previous discussion where I discussed Ebikes in New York with anyone for flecc to find, as it simply didn't happen

You made it up and simply lied.

No, they are the usual Oriental e-bikes, including brands we'd recognise like Ezee and Giant, plus Canadian BionX motors and Trek e-bikes.

Although this subject has been discussed a number of times in here, OldGroaner hasn't participated, so this is probably confusion with someone else posting about it. We have other members with double barrelled site names starting with Old.

OG has mentioned New York in over 30 prior posts, but on various other subjects and never on an e-bike subject.

This is why I'm so opposed to a three way question in a new referendum. Depending on how the question is framed, one faction's vote would be divided, in this case it's the Leave one.

Being so blatantly unfair wouldn't solve anything. Only a straight Remain or Leave question can give the decisive answer that's needed to settle the matter in a way accepted by all.

Thank you, I'm surprised no American manufacturers have taken advantage, or is the profit level not worth the investment?

Trek is American and there are some others, but sales are not huge there. I only know of two sizeable e-bike outlets, Nycewheels in New York and ElectricBikesNW in Seattle. The latter also tried a California branch but that seems to have shut.

E-bikes there are largely leisure things used for mucking about, often off road and often using very large wattage motors like Chinese direct drives. Many home builds of course.

The confused legal position there doesn't help, states having widely variable laws and sometimes punitive. See this link, but note that there are some detailed changes since.

Not that many threads though, some of the posting was following up within a thread. New York's mayor was the subject at times.

Have to say in Manhattan the electric ones actually were more plentiful than ordinary bikes.

The only place where they were less numerous was in Central Park and those bikes were high end road bikes.

Of course" now it comes back to me, the Mayor who claimed he owed his success to Honest Graft , and and then absconded with $3,000,000!

Indeed, many used for courier work and deliveries. Having a large e-bike dealer like Nycewheels on the spot makes a big difference of course.

They should become more plentiful on some other US roads eventually. Illinois has also given up it's total ban on e-bikes, now allowing the 20 mph ones complying with federal law, so they are becoming more common on Chicago's city streets.
